A little while ago, in the usual Tablighi Threads, some one posted a comment about why sometimes in Jamaat, people tase salt before eating with some brothers saying it was not sunnah and it was another false attribution from TJ and spreading wrong knowledge.
So, I was suprised when I read this: http://www.askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.p...f56e1340943d08 So it's a sunnah, yeah? Ive got someone to get a rough translation of the arabic in the link and they say it confirms its sunnah. Any comments? |

The digestive process requires water for effective breakdown of food and enzymatic action.
Salt draws water to itself by a process called osmosis. Hence tasting a little bit of salt prior to food aids in the digestive process. Even if not a Sunnah of Muhammad SAW, being a Sunnah of the sahaba in itself is amazing. |

assalamo alikum
guess who ![]() anyway, i was actually laughed at and ridiculed in tabligh when doing muzakhirah, i said it was a sunnah. the guy who laughed at me was a purana sathi, although he has gone very wayward in recent times. according to him this is not a sunnah and was advice of a saint. i apologise if i was mis-informed but judging by the previous thread about the salt tasting many others were misinformed as well, some saying it is a sunnah and some saying it isnt. inshallah we will get to the bottom of this. as a side note this actually illustrates the dire need to be taught by scholars and not laymen because laymen will always err on the half baked knowledge we possess. |

is this your own reasoning or have you read this somewhere. I was also told that Muhammad SAW advised not to drink too much water after 4 physical activities; one of them being strenuous exercise. ( Whether this is a strong hadeeth I don't know) A good grasp of science allows one to conclude why this is the case also! Shall i explain or have you had enough already?? ![]() |

but why cant a person just drink water on top of their food? Water throughout the meal is better for digestion than straight after, so again there's some more wisdom in this Sunnah too!. I'm sure drinking water throughout is a Sunnah unless I'm wrong in which case rectification is requested. So all in all, it's good practice and good eating "etiquette". |

Our illustrious Fuqaha have ruled that it is Sunnah to commence and conclude ones meals with salt. what dose this sentence mean actuelly? that its sunnah to take salt before meal or its sunnah to put salt in the meal?

![]() One of my Amirs in Pakistan told us that he heard from Maulana Jamshed himself, that it's Sunnah to start the meal with something salty and not something sweet like most people think. We first thought he might have misunderstood something, but he was pretty sure. So, this is my sanad going through Maulana Jamshed. ![]() |

I am thinking Rasool Allah used the salt for aftaar (Fasting) if he don’t get any food to eat at aftaar time then he used salt and also Sodium chloride is create the electrolytes in body cell to more effective bound work.
You can try your self use the salt at aftaar time take small bite after that you don’t feel hunger. |
