New Delhi: Three weeks after he was ousted amid bedlam, yoga guru Baba Ramdev returned to the capital Sunday and accused police of having tried to kill him and rape women when they broke up a protest by him and thousands against corruption earlier this month.
Vocally and visibly aggressive, Ramdev denied accusations that he had illegally organised a massive protest at the Ramlila ground here and also challenged the government to unearth black money if he had any. The government, the saffron-robbed man said, was not keen to wage a war on corruption or bring back black money stashed abroad by Indians. "At Ramlila Maidan, the police did not come to arrest me, they wanted to kill me," Ramdev told a news conference here, detailing events that shook the city after the midnight of June 4. |

I doubt his own followers would take him seriously any longer. Baba has lost great degree of credibility with this entire fiasco. ![]() Not likely. In all likelihood his national presence will go slightly down but personal follower ship will only increase. Take the other examples. Mahesh Yogi's monastery in our locality was called the Bull Farm-think of the Urdu word. Did he vanish from the scene? Yes, only after death. Acharya Rajnish? In spite of Khajuraho and Konark the Indian society takes haya as a way of life but even then Osho kept going great in spite of his liberal philosophy. Thirdly even after exposure of Sathya Sai Baba as a magician by Indian versions of James Randi nothing happened to his popularity. Wassalam |

The likes of Mahesh Yogi and Osho never plunged themselves into Politics and got their mettle exposed on such a large scale. They were good at what they carried out through out their life. Baba Ramdev, on the other hand, stepped into political arena in which he has no expertise at all and aftermath of his immature struggle is apparent to everyone. But khayr, my doubt still stands same. How would people put their trust in someone's words anymore who announces fast-till-death but doesn't keep his end of the bargain? Will people take someone with same seriousness who tries to flee wearing women's cloth to escape police arrest? |
