Default Clarification of Pledge of Mutual Respect and Co-operation by Yasir Qadhi
Assalamualaikum,

Can anyone clarify the issues on the "Pledge of Mutual Respect and Co-operation" done by Yasir Qadhi? I stumbled upon this on youtube and there are various oppositions condemning yasir qadhi and others regarding this pledge. From my understanding this pledge seeks to unite sunni muslims with different theological understandings such as the mainstream sunnis, maturidi, ashaari, salafi etc.. Is unity ok regardless on some differences in theology and fiqh, or are they considered sects out of the fold of islam and therefore unity with them is impossible?

Fyi this pledge was signed by various well known muslim figures especially in the west.. as can be seen on:

http://www.newislamicdirections.com/...scholars_orga/

http://muslimmatters.org/2007/09/22/...d-cooperation/

some criticisms:

Well, we Deobandis have never been takfiris and are willing to come on the stage with anyone who

is sincere in intent and broad-minded. After all, Yahya ibn Sa'eed al Qattan said, "The scholars of the

Ahl al Sunnah are the Ahl al Tawsiya^". Translation of Ahl al Tawsiya^: People of broadmindedness.

There are two groups which will be difficult to bring around: The hardcore Salafis and the Barelwis.

The rest are already on one platform. See.....that's me. . . . adjusting the mike.....

Not if I have to join hands with Saeed Book Bank, Islamabad....They charge too much for the books and whatever you need is always out of stock...And not with the pakistan cricket board either as I dont like the present chairman....There goes your poor unity drive!!!

Dear Kashmiri brother,

What in the seven heavens and the seven earths is a WAHABANDAFI?

Is it some new kind of "anda"=egg?

Dear Depressed Muslim,

You lost your chance.

Well, did someone here say something?

Don't mind me. I'll just go and brush up on my hadith.

Ahh i forgot to edit that other post in which I made you look like an idiot!!! shudnt have done that...sorry...anyways I just saw the thappa of Brother Saad (the articles on that site are well researched) and Abdul hayee Lucknawi in the article and changed my stance...the hadith refers to someone eating up other's property so his punishment would be wearing seven earths around his neck so something clicked...this does not mean that I have incorporated it in my aqeeda straightaway as it is forever...wait till I become a mujtahid Mutalaq!!

Well, waiting for you to become a mujtahid mutlaq would be like waiting for Godot. I'll pass. Can't we have something earlier....like anywhere before Qiyama?
Till then I would like to honour you with the title of Mujtahid Potluck which I have given to some other lunkheads on this forum.

What's Godot???....and you underestimate my abilities mate .....I had a great time being a mujtahid fil mazaahib and was well respected until the international conspiracy was launched to demote me to a muqallid!!

On a serious note, I was frankly a little dissappointed at the tone and words you used for srdahmed on that other thread...

Leave Godot for the time being. You will have to brush up on your literature for that. Stick to your

study of hadith.

The name that you have taken seems to be mistaken. Wasn't it srdamad? Even I felt very bad later. Its

an excess of anger that I have been battling since childhood and nowadays nothing seems to bring out

the worst in me than the wholesale takfir that some people indulge in. If I come across the brother

again, I will apologize to him, Inshallah. By the way you should have been extremely disappointed at

what I did. If my Shaykh were to come to know, he would be. Wasalaam.

I see...its good that you regret it....so you are against takfiris who target people within the sunni sects...and who's your sheikh?
