Don't trust wikipedia but lets go with this....

The sex ratio for the entire world population is 101 males to 100 females

Andorra has one of the hightest ratio at 1.07

I will await people to prove statistically that the ratio of women in the world is "Massively" high...

I highly doubt there is any credible evidence for there being massively more women in the world. I think this claim is made by some people to justify polygamy. I have my doubts on the authenticity of such a claim or whether or not it has been made up to support polygamy.

Also, here is an article from the economist which hints to there being more boys then girls in India!

There are No evidences to support the claim rather there are plenty of them which go against the claim.

you should consider the increased numbers of wars around the world which affects men primarily in terms of life expectancy.

Yeap, I think that's one of the main causes for women to be in higher numbers. Men generally have higher percentage of mortality.

I have read and heard this claim from many Muslims that the ration of women to men in the world is massively high?

Where do get this idea from? Where are the statistics to back this up?

Don't know about the entire world, but from country to country, from war to war, it can be significant:

In most human societies, females outnumber males. In America today, there are at least eight million more women than men. In a country like Guinea, there are 122 females for every 100 males. In Tanzania, there are 95.1 males per 100 females (Hillman, 88-93). What should a society do when faced with such an unbalanced sex ratio? There are various solutions; some might suggest celibacy, while others prefer female infanticide (which tragically happens in even some “civilized” societies in the world today) Yet others may think the only solution is that society should tolerate all manners of sexual permissiveness: prostitution, infidelity, homosexuality, etc.

Such an imbalance in the sex ratios becomes truly problematic in times of war. Native American Indian tribes used to suffer highly unbalanced sex ratios after military losses. The women in these tribes, who, in fact, enjoyed a fairly high status, accepted polygamy as being the best protection against indulgence in indecent activities. After the Second World War, there were 7,300,000 more women than men in Germany (3.3 million of them were widows). Many of these women needed a man not only as a companion, but also as a provider for the household in a time of unprecedented misery and hardship. What is more dignified for a woman—to be an accepted and respected second wife, as in the Native Indians' approach, or to be nothing more than a prostitute? In 1987, a poll conducted by the student newspaper at the University of California at Berkeley asked students whether they agreed that men should be allowed by law to have more than one wife. This question was posed in response to a perceived shortage of male marriage candidates in California. Almost all of the students polled approved of the idea (J. Lang, Struggling to Surrender , 172).

More males are born than females, but females live longer. There are only more females than males later in life. Off the top of my head, I can not recall around what age it is that the ratio evens out. (If you wish me to go digging through my books and pull out a textbook reference for this I can.)

But anyhow.... since the figures are used to support polygamy, then let us promote young men to marry much older women-- since that is where the excess of women are!

I personally don't trust any reports and studies that comes from Non-muslims. How do we trust them when they lie so much? Whether be muslims or non muslims I can't trust a liar.

It is common experience and observation that there are more women than men in the world. Look around yourself, look in your family.

There is hadith that towards the end of times, there will be 1:50 ratio btw men and women.

It won't happen overnight will it?

The proportion of women vs men hasn't changed (yet). You just see more of them now because they no longer stay at home.

I have never understood why this argument has been used to justify polygamy in Islam. Even if there were massively more women in the world, there has never been a time where women have outnumbered the men by 4:1.

Maybe because you never tried to understand this argument. It's never used to justify Ta'addud. Ta'addud is a part of Islam and it is justified by Allah and his Rasool themselves. No other argument is needed to justify it.

This argument is brought to highlight the need of ta'addud.

It is not common experience and observation that there are more women than men.

If someone lived in China, for example, they would incorrectly conclude based upon observation that there were more males than females. If I were to look around and observe simply those around me, I would have to conclude that there are more males than females. My father was in a family of only one sister and several brothers. My mother has only one sister and several brothers. A woman I know has four boys and no girls. My children's classes at school are dominated by male students.

On the flip side, if someone attended a university in the US, for example, and based their conclusion on the students there, then they would incorrectly conclude that there are more females than males. This is because at present more females than males are earning college undergraduate degrees in the US. (At the doctoral level it is reversed with significantly more males than females.)

The only thing an individual's observation of the gender's around them can conclude is that the case is true for that particular setting. Based upon my observations of my children's school, I can conclude only that there are more males than females at that particular school. Based upon person X's observations at their university, they can only conclude that there are more females than males at that particular university (or in that particular classroom of the uni).

Of course, you don't trust me anyhow.

But anyhow.... since the figures are used to support polygamy,
It's used to support ta'addud but Ta'addud is not solely based on this. It ain't mainly about women being more than men. It's about nice, practicing good muslimahs finding it difficult to find nice practicing muslim heroes.

Ta'addud is practiced by our Prophet , Sahaba رضي الله عنهم and it has been allowed by Allah. This is enough to support ta'addud, we don't need any figures or statistics to prove it.

Allah has allowed whatever is good for us and naturally ta'addud is best for us.

then let us promote young men to marry much older women-- since that is where the excess of women are! Yes please promote, ever ready...
