I can't get this: this and the Khat used in Somalia and Yemen.

Why are there scholars condoning its use if we all agree they are drugs? Nay, they themselves make use of it..
In Ibn Battuta's "Rihla" there is constant mentioning of its use all across his travels in the Sub-Continent and nearby countries, without (if I remember correctly) a word of condemnation.

And Marjuana then? If a consistent number of Jamaican brothers who have accepted Islam kept making use of Marjuana under the excuse of it being part of theri "cultural tradition" (as I understand is Pan and would we be ready to condone them their use? If not, what's the difference?

P.S.: I didn't even ever tried Marjuana so I don't have any personal interest in the discussion; and mine are genuine questions, I hope someone can clarify for me.

Does all 'paan' contain tobacco? What does it usually contain (please list all ingredients in English)?

so paan = -1(for being bad and having no good in it)

Marijuana for being Bad -3 and for haivn medical qualities+1 = -2

Same here with my granny and this was like 17 years ago ..... We had a paan tree in my grannys yard and we use to chew it at times for fun. It was awful though, and I never knew what the big deal about chewing it was, aside from all the old people having yellow teeth and bright red lips . lol

The paan leaf itself is not harmful but when tobacco and the other stuff is added to it it can seriously damage your health. It can cause oral cancers of the lip, tongue, mouth and pharynx and nicotine addiction.

Qaat does not intoxicate. It is a stimulant, not an intoxicant.

Try some if you don't believe me (as I already have).

I have seen many Ulema chewing paan.
I like sweet paan

Howz it!

Once there was a lecture of Hazrath Mufti Nawal-ur-rahmaan Sahab so there was some qiraat, naat was going. Mufti Sahab was preparing paan and and asked my friend(who was sitting besides him and taking care of his bag) about paan, he said no. If I would had been in his place, I should had asked him sweet paan. No matters if he has cheery in it or not

Your granny? It was my moyang who did that. Allah bless her soul (and she died in 1988).

Those who don't know what Paan is: Click here.

Have authentic scholars ever issued a verdict on paan? Does it's ruling (mubah, makruh or haram) depend on the use of tobaco? Is it true, that an Indian king after witnessing the miracle of the moon-splitting, sent 3 gifts to Rasulullah and one of them was paan?

Any useful information would be appreciated.

The status of Pan is exalted.
I had a meetha, Puna masala Pan yesterday. Please don't tell me that it is haram.

Some years ago I was gluing together a model aeroplane, because I was into models in those days. After a couple of hours the glue fumes made me quite sick. I don't understand how anyone could get addicted to that, it just gives me a headache.

Maybe it's just me. I use a fountain pen because ballpoint ink fumes make me sick after writing a few pages. I also can't stand the smell of certain types of attar.

So paan, or at least the tobacco variety, is haram. Other than that, this thread has been four pages of absurdity
