Sudden abundant dhikr
1. Is it true that sudden abundant dhikr can be mentally harmful?
I have heard this being alluded to by many people. 2. If the answer to question 1 is in the affirmitive, how is it that remembering/taking the name of Allah can be harmful? 3. Are there any experts in Tasawwuf that can answer this? |
Anybody know?

وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّـهَ كَثِيرًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ... ..and remember Allah often that you may succeed. (Quran 62:10) Kathir in Arabic means a lot. Qur'an doesn't specify the limit, which means you could do it as much as you want, or capable to. By the way, warm welcome to Sunniforum! http://discussworldissues.com/forums...nnah_smile.gif |
Remember that its about consistency and what you can handle. If you go overboard, Shaytan may deter you a little. Do as much as you can (push yourself to the limit if you wish), but do not over stress yourself to the point where the next day you give up and never do it again. Welcome to the boards.

I don't think you will actually go mad...
...but other people might think you're a little strange. Basic dhikr is so easy to do, and you start enjoying it and doing it lots. But the people who don't do it just don't get it. |

If you do a repetitive task suddenly in great abundance you are likely to experience the Tetris Effect but, in the case of dhikr, I don't see how that will bring harm and in fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but it may actually be a desired effect. |
