A brother told me that Allah is in the heavens and sitting on the throne. But this raised some questions. Did Allah create the throne or is it eternal? Quran says Allah created the heavens and earth so why is Allah in his creation? Unless I missed something out and Allah is in another uncreated heaven. Also how can these things contain Allah when he is the all powerful and eternal? How can the heaven and throne hold Allah and how can they be eternal and seperate from him? |

Based on what the proper traditional 'Ulama say, the throne is a creation, and the Istawa 'Ala Al-'Arsh is not to be taken in the sense of Allah sitting on something, since this would mean that Allah is in His creation as any person who understands what sitting means would know. There sure is a lot of controversy, but this is due to some people not understanding who Allah is and what is impossible to attribute to Him. |

If you believed in the possibility of something being originated but not created, then then you'd be confused too. But it is Ajeeb. I have (unfortunately ignorant) friends who are obsessed with these issues. I often wonder if they actually believe in the things they hear. That's actually the thing that gets me. I don't want to start a debate (too late), but I always wonder if those people who say they know the meaning of this Attribute or that one, if they actually believe in what they claim. |

Wouldnt it make sense to sit down with a learned scholar and ask him these questions, especially considering that these questions are controversial? Pretty much every response in this topic has given the classical Islamic view but I really want to know how the other side answers those questions. I want to go back to that brother who told me that Allah sits on a throne in the heaven and ask him to answer the questions but I fear that he will accuse me of using reason instead of describing Allah like he has described himself. I might as well give it a go and see how he responds. |
