Asalaamu alaikum, I'm both a new revert and new to these forums, so my deepest apologies if this is posted in the wrong section-
I've been told that seizures mean I have to do wudu over again because it's a loss of consciousness. I've heard dozing off a little where you're still aware you don't, but since you cannot be snapped into awareness from even a very short seizure (like an absence) you have to do wudu over again... I keep hearing mixed answers on whether or not I have to do it every time. I have absence seizures frequently enough that sometimes, I can have 100 or more in a day. Obviously, sometimes it interrupts prayer. And sometimes, because I'm in silence and in prayer, it's happened and I didn't notice until after when someone told me I was standing there eyes fluttering. Since it happens frequently enough that it would be very hard or impossible on a bad day to keep up with all prayers, do I still have to stop, do wudu again and do prayers over? Or can I continue and finish if it keeps happening that day? Also- since I remain conscious during a simple partial seizure, do I have to do wudu again since my consciousness is altered? Or does consciousness mean I'm still ok? I've also heard a tale that complete loss of consciousness for more than a minute (which I've gotten with complex partials and grand mal) that I need to do ghusl.... Is this true? And if there are different answers between the schools of thoughts, I'd like to know. I just put "Hanafi" on mine because that's what my Masjid put in for the prayer times calendar and my friends are all Hanafi.. I still don't understand the differences so well yet. Sorry for all the questions. I just want to do prayers right. |

Some below have more than 1 parts so they might be on the right side of the list of youtube videos.
Please go through these videos as it will explain quite easily and these are 'Ulamaa [scholars]: Methodology of the Hanafi fiqh [school of thought] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b3_192gaQ4 Following a Madhab - Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yORmU1h3-18 Should I follow a Madhab or Hadith? 1/2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKvi7R6AND0 Etiquettes of Difference of opinions [Part 1] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHmRaurk3Gk Invitation to Muslim Unity - Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cymph__m-h4 As for your seizure question, well that is a specific case and only a scholar can answer that, so we wait until brother abujhajira [he's a scholar] or some other scholar comes and answers. |

You should probably ask the question to a Mufti.
Here's the email of one you can contact (he's a user here as well): muftiabdullah@gmail.com He usually replies very quickly, but, since this question is somewhat unique, it may take him some time to provide a complete answer. Finally, may Allah bless you for adopting this beautiful Deen (religion) and keep you strong in Iman (Faith). Ameen |
