I once gave my sheikh a very nice copy of the Noble Quran. It will not win you any points for originality, but it is the one gift that will never insult and if you bring it from a special place (Makkah, Medinah etc), I am sure your sheikh will be happy.

Also you can give some good book of hadith/tafseer or tasawwuf according to his taste.

Assalamu Alaikum, I wonder why we have to give a Shaykh something that we know he probably has dozens of, like Tasbihs, Prayer mats, books, etc.....
We should present them with something that we would want people to give us as a gift.

_Once we got a cake for a Mufti Sahab, a nice chocolate cake with his name on it, him and his family loved it. He said that it was the first time he got something that was so personal.
_You could get him a pack of soft drinks with French Fries and fried or baked chicken from home.
_A box of Ice Cream
_Yes..... Chocolates like mmb. suggested
_A Thermos so he can keep his Tea warm.
_A Cup with #1 SHAYKH (embedded) on it.
_Have your child (or yourself) make a Drawing or Painting, print "For My Shaikh with deepest regards" and frame it and give it to him.

I mean it might sound like I am being childish, but Shaykhs are also normal people (but with immense knowledge) and they are like us normal people who like people to treat them normally.

I'm sure I am not making much sense, but............... all I can say is they will appreciate it and enjoy and show and share your gift with their family.

Salaams.

I don't know about this one. My husband was given a pen once with something along these lines. Although he thought it was a nice gesture, he's too embarassed to use it.

Food always goes down nice so the cake is a nice idea. Itr is a gift thats always appreciated.... as long as it's some thing nice though. Although he may appreciate the gesture, no-ones' going to be thrilled to receive some synthetic soap smelling perfume. If he has children, then it's nice to give something for them instead.

If someone is living in a cold country, a pair of gloves of scarf is nice.

Praying while carrying weapons is the forgotten sunnah of our beloved prophet AS and the reward for the salah is more than the normal one. A small knife or something like this which has a knife

I think the point of ankaboot's post was give some food and drink bought/made by oneself, french fries or health rusks, whatever.

Mashed Potatoes then or some healthy boiled vegetables with a pinch of Salt and a pinch of ground black pepper (no butter or margerine)

Sudoku got the idea of what I was trying to sayAlhamdulillah. I can assure you that home made food as a gift to our Shaykh and their family is a good gesture.
