al-Hafiz Ibn Hajr says in his Fath:

Ibn Hajr said: Some of the Salaf (Predecessors) said: 'If a man praises a person in front of him then the one who is praised should say : "Oh Allah forgive me for that which they do not know (about me), and take not in to account for that which they say (about me) and make me better from that which they think of me" reported in al-Bayhaqi's Shu'ab al-Iman.

It is the exact same as Sis. Aishath posted but just with the sentences in a different order.

A shorter version of this Du'a is mentioned in al-Bukhari's Adab al-Mufrad with a decent chain going back to an un-named Companion :

Wallahu A'lam.

Assalaamu Alaikum

Well I decided to just privately message the seller but I didn't give any sort of review. I did say to him as well that I knew he had done this to help save me some money but it doesn't feel right to me. It still feels dishonest really. Unfortunately I didnt even know of vat but from now on I'm steering clear of international purchases Insha Allah . It isn't worth it.
I agree with you, it is dishonest. When i made my purchase, i was also unaware of the VAT implications. I think that is a legitimate charge. however to pay £12 to DHL to pay £8 VAT to government, that seemed very unfair/unjust to me. I am not sure if we can 'donate', to the government, but if you cannot, perhaps you can absolve through giving in charity? Best to ask a Shaykh.
