All my life I have done nothing but sin
I know what's right and wrong but I just give in
So hard to keep straight so easy to go astray
Tryna do right, but my nafs says one more day
Don't got the will power to tell the whispers to go away
So many different paths which way will I sway
All my life I have been to my nafs a slave
Done everything fulfilling that which I crave
I know its wrong but I can't lower my gaze
So many wrongs I just feel my Imaan decay
I try to be good and get on the right path
But so much fitna out there I fall right back
One day religious next day doing something lewd
Duel personality everyday do they feud
I know the company you keep plays a big part
But so many friends it’s hard for me to de-part
Day by day passes, but I’ll give it another a try
I picture hell and heaven and know not yet can I die
This time around only on you will I rely
Everyone else all failed me leaving me asking why
So now I put my hands up and turn to they sky
Please Allah give me the taufiq to tell my nafs good-bye

shajratutooba:

An Inner Cry.

The task you have assigned me to
so hard to hold on whole affixing
my gaze on you.
Pulling with might it crushes me
trying its best to swerve away
my gaze from you.

At times my strengths do fail
And I contemplate giving up
my hold on you.
But as I behold that warmth
in your tug so affectionate
I hold on to you.

Ignoring all pain, hugging strife
going on amidst the turmoil
reaching out to you.
Searching for traces in the sands
of footsteps which shall lead on
reaching out to you.

Ah! The moments I found one
ecstasy welling in my heart
I wish it were eternal.
And the moments I moved on
sensing the feeling in that footprint
I wish it were eternal.

Oh! The moments I missed some
grief overwhelming my heart
I wish I never were.
Feeling the pangs of separation
As my sins created distance
I wish I never were.

Is this what you want from me
This struggle to and fro
But how do I secure my end ?
Or is it that I have capacities unused
to keep me on track forever
ensuring my secure end?

So many of your bounties great
to help me take, the path
leading on to you.
Each moment a new sign board;
yet I keep losing, the way
leading on to you.

O’ you who knows my inner needs
more than my own pretending self
make me true .
O’ who knows what pulls me down
enshrouding me in covers false
make me true.

"Sacrifice - The only definition of sacrifice is the "Life of Prophet Mohammed (SAS), His Family and His Companions". How a person can spend everything he has.... How can a Family bear the torture and killing of their sons...How can those many companions spend, fight and die on his command..."

bintAmirah:

When Jibrael (as) asked of Islam
That true, complete submission
The Prophet, peace be upon him, told him of
Five pillars, so goes the tradition

In bodily acceptance so she testified
And learnt her day’s devotions
Giving up her popularity and wealth
Covered, worshipping full of emotion

She sacrificed the compliments
The extra shoes and clothes she’d buy
The easy day with no salah
But still she’d wonder, “why?”

And then he asked, “What is Iman?”
So it followed in the next breath:
“Belief in Allah, His books and Prophets
In Qadr and life after death”

So bowing her mind to the will of her Rabb
She locked her doubts away
Relinquishing her arrogant ‘need to know’
She’d recite " " ليس كمثله شيء

She sacrificed the confidence
Of thinking she had all the answers
And then began to realise that
The human intellect and mind have borders

And finally he asked the Messenger (saw)
“Tell me, what is Ihsan?”
He said, “To worship Allah as though you see Him”
The excellence of a righteous man

Turning to her soul on this journey she knew
The struggle that lay before her
The battle she’d wage, the true jihad
To abase her nafs for her Creator

Forgoing her rest, her satiety
She prayed through the night’s entirety
But after all this, it wasn’t her sleep that she missed
But the family who’d shunned her: Extremist.

On reflection, she knew that of all of the things
She had given up, forsaken, abandoned
Her wealth, sleep and status in the eyes of creation
Not one could match Allah’s compassion

Remember that we are but wayfarers travelling
And all belongs to our Lord from this life
And how could we compare anything we forgo
To Ibrahim who willingly took to his son with a knife

And For what is this world but a passing glitter
This dunya, so lowly, wretched in the sight of Allah
Whatever we sacrifice in this life was not ever ours
" و الآخرة خير و أبقى"

Wow. This a lot of good stuff.

espabamar 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

@ BA- most of it is poetry. Only 4/13 aren't poems.

come on, read them, it won't kill you! Otherwise you won't be able to make an impartial decision.

deandrecooke 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

I wish i could do multiple polls.

this is really amazing stuff http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/mash.gif... i think its gona take me the whole day to decide what to vote for!

phsyalcvqh 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

Excellent entries mashaAllah! It was so hard to vote for one, I wish there was a 1st 2nd and third choice. I think there should have been one vote for poetry/prose and other for photpgraphy/drawing stuff.

Did the ones behind the non-poems entries describe or explain the feelings that accompanied their works somewhere ?
You see I wouldn't like to miss the intention/goal that is behind an entry which my limited mind couldn't get.

http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/jazak.gif to all.
Yes.
My understanding is limited but this is what i could interpret.

Entry 1: Uthman is written in red and blood splatter on a Mushaf. When Uthman (ra) was martyred he was reciting Quran and his blood splattered on the Mushaf. Uthman (ra)'s sacrifice speaks volumes.

Entry 3: Poem about Rasoolullah (saw) so Majid an Nabawi in the background.

Entry 5: Shaib abi talib, i don't know much about the incident, I think it was when members of Bani Hashim were forced to go outside Makkah, without shelter.

Entry 7 and 11: 2 sides, one without sacrifice and other with sacrifice

Entry 9: Crayon scrapbook from childhood through motherhood

Entry 10: Sacrifice of a Mujahid

Entry 12: Colours and raindrops in the background being metaphorically mentioned in the poem.

Entry 13: Dunya, Hellfire below, Jannah above.

http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/salam.gif,
BarakAllahu fik;; I really don't know which to choose there are many that are very good and I don't want to break someone's heart if he gets fewer votes while he/she did a splendid job. Make du'a for me (http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...icon_smile.gif).

# 10 I feel talks more of the sacrifice of the wife left behind when the husband. I can relate to it through my mother and father as my father would go in TJ a lot.

Yea i too don't want to break hearts. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...icon_smile.gif
But thinking of it, the posters already got their reward for spreading the good message through their works. Getting fewer votes won't matter i guess.

Its from the wife's perspective, thats why 'for you... Mujahid', its the wife talking about the husband.

its so hard to make a choice, all the entrys look like they had a lot of thought and effort in them mashaAllah

DoctorNelsonOnten 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

lol. i really don't know what to vote for either, this is harder than i thought *sigh*... all the work here is incredible! if i vote for anyone i'm going to have to SACRIFICE alot! but nevermind, everyone seems to be in the sacrificing mood.

Mister.levitra 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

They're all beautiful http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/mash.gif. Very thought-provoking and inspiring. It is very interesting to see how the entries are so varied and the contestants have interpreted sacrifice all in their individual ways. I am spoilt for choice.

http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/mash.gif we have a lot of hidden talent amongst members.

Cyzkrahu 09-03-2012 11:21 PM

MashaALLAH t3ala every single one of these entries is beautiful, and remarkable in its own way, I seriously
cannot choose....I feel like every single one of these deserves a vote, and if I choose one, I will be unfair
with the others.....ya ALLAH t3ala what should I do? Im thinking of not voting, or doing qur3ah...

Btw just a suggestion to the voters, as you can see some have graphics, some are plain, and some people
are attracted by colors and pictures, so while you vote look at the depth of the context, and what the author
was feeling when writing so and so....and btw none of those are mines (for those who might think, mine is a plain
poem, and Im trying to encourage you to look at it, I didnt participate, next time inshaALLAH t3ala)

Masha Allah these are amazing and as many have already high lighted, choosing only one is quite a task. Regardless of the results, congrats every brother and sister who have taken out their time to make these inspiring pieces and may Allah bless you all with more talent and knowledge so that you all can keep making such inspiring things. Please realize that it is not winning that matters and let satan not put that in anyones heart. I havent voted since I am not sure which one to vote on. Again well done all of you. Very inspiring and thoughtful, masha Allah.
