Default Some Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs have "English" firstnames?
Why?

Why?
They have no respect for themselves. I used to work with an indian guy who called himself "Leonard Simon". I felt embarrassed for him.

There is nothing in Islam that says one must have an arabic name!!
The naming convention is often adopted based on the culture/dominant.
Adopting a sort of arabic name came much later.
However an indian or an african guy adopting an european name stinks of inferiority complex!!
You don't see european adopting an african or an asian name but do see non gora doing this more often!

I never understand why people are obsessed with names.

Names are important... Hence having a nice or good name is also important.

However, there is not only one Yazeed in Islamic History.. so I guess it is okay if one names one's child Yazeed in reference to the other Yazeeds, and not the son of Muawiyah (RA)

That's very true, I'm sure Muawiyah (ra) had a brother called Yazid if I'm not mistaken?

Don't forget that many revert to Islam and keep their "English" names. Doesn't make them any lesser of a Muslim, in fact most reverts are several times more "Muslim" than us born Muslims.

"Yazeed" is not a cursed name. It is even a word mentioned in the Qur'an, as it means "he increases".

Not the same thing. I never changed my name, but a colonized muppet trying to pass himself off as a white englishman/american/euro is pathetic and, trust me, that person will get no respect.

And as a convert (not revert, that word has to go), I can tell you that I am no better or worse than any other muslim other than in taqwa.

Some names appear Western but are good Muslim names, usually the names of prophets of Bani Israil: eg Daniel.

And of course, Adam!
