Default Answer to Humidity Issues Please
Pardon the double post, I couldn't think of a way around it!

I'm an Australian in Malaysia on the Equator with (often) 80% Relative Humidity.

COPD sufferers often move out to the DRY DESERT with 30% +/- Relative Humidity and find relief and get good results. I considered moving beyond the Australian Outback where Relative Humidity is much the same.

THEREFORE I invested quite a lot in DE-Humidifiers.
In the office I enjoy 50% to 60% RH (well it's a start!) and my breathing feels lighter. I use a Auto Adjust CPAP (APAP) for Sleep Apnea at night which is perched directlly above a DE-humidifier and it takes in air with lower %RH - gets a bit hot though!

BUT: Doctors say perfect air to breath is body temperature with almost 100% humidity - hence CPAP machines and Oxygen Generators all have HUMIDIFIERS! ALSO along comes therapy that gets results by blowing warm (almost) steam into the lungs!

I'M CONFUSED: -
1) How come opposites are getting results?
2) Anybody got any experience, input data re: the HUMIDITY & HUMIDIFIER/DE-HUMIDIFIER issue?

Bill - The therapy that uses the steam blown into your lungs is actually removing dead tissue. It isn't like a daily therapy. It's a procedure somewhat like lung volume reduction surgery without the surgery.

The Intervapor system that Barbara just mentioned has just been approved for use in Australia.

You are fortunate to be in that part of the world where you can at least have a shot at going to Australia to get treatment. At the rate the US government approves things it could take years before Americans can have the opportunity.

As far as I am concerned it should be fast tracked for approval worldwide considering millions die from lung disease each year.

1) Do you know if anything in my Lung Function Test indicate much dead tissue?
I wouldn't know what proportions I have of Asthma, Emphysema & Bronchitis!

a) Born with weak lungs. NEVER been a smoker.
b) SpO2 is 92% to 96%
c) FEF2575 max 20% Pred. even if blown up by max cortisones.
d) ELA Estimated Lung Age 200%
e) FEV1 44%, FVC 87%, FEV1//FVC 50% of Pred.
f) FIV1, 104%, FIV1/FIVC 123% of Pred.
I also wondered about HIGH readings!

Any lay help pls?

I am no expert but from what I am reading, you have 50% of your lung function compared to people in your age group. The only way to determine if your lungs could be improved by the InterVapor is to have a CAT SCAN which would determine the location of any damage.

Many times, the portions of the lung that are damaged cause the lungs to not function efficiently. I can't speak for your lungs but it certainly wouldn't hurt to find out if it might help you. For what it's worth - I have about 30% of the lung function of people in my age group and it has pretty stayed that way for the past 6 years. My biggest problem is hyperinflation and I am not expert on reading the results but here is a link that might help you.
