Hi All,
I have just bought a Brita Water filter thingie following some advice by Tril and a few others about drinking water. To be honest I never drank any water at all. I drank 4 litres of Diet Soda (I think this is the american term?) we just call it Pepsi Max. I believed that because this was zero carbs, zero sugar etc. that I could guzzle this and it would do the job! Was I wrong? Just how important is drinking loads of water to a low carb diet? I am drinking about 8/10 pints of pure filtered water a day and aim to STOP the diet soda and coffee immediately! Will I see much improvement? I am also now running every day, not to lose weight but because I love running and want to get fit for re-enlistment into the military. Thanks! Gary |

Coke Zero has 34.5mg in a 12 oz can.
Diet Pepsi Max has 69mg in a 12 oz can. Brewed coffee has 107.5mg per 8 oz. Not so bad in that comparison. Here's a list of drinks and caffeine content if you're interested: http://www.energyfiend.com/the-caffeine-database |

I'm not sure it IS addictive. At least not in the true sense. It's certainly habit forming.... why? Because, if you like it, it tastes good. It's sweet, bubbly, cold, and EASY. It appeals to your senses more than water... it's sweet/flavorful, it bubbles, it smells good, it has color. And, if you're hooked on the diet versions, it's "guilt-free". There aren't many choices "dieters" have that give the same oral pleasure they crave (and remember) while still being acceptable on a diet. I can't eat chocolate cake, but I CAN drink a Coke Zero. I can't eat plates of spaghetti... but I CAN drink a Diet Sprite. I can't have ice cream... but I CAN have a Diet Root Beer.
I think there are plenty of reasons why people (women especially) have a hard time giving up the diet soda/pop... but I don't think it's related to caffeine. |
