Thank you Jo!! I am finding that protein REALLY has a HUGE affect on me.........

DAY 8 July 23, 2012

Weight 150.2 (Holey catfish…)
Fasting glucose 81
Fasting Ketones .4 *

1656 calories (I just was not hungry)
26 g carbs (15 net)
76 g protein
144 g fat

*I really expected this to be at .5 especially after I weighed myself this morning. As I said yesterday, the horrible dustball, dry mouth is almost gone, hardly anything like what it was. My eyes are also not dry. I am still wondering how Jimmy Moore reached .5 in two days….I walked 6 miles yesterday, and am going to the gym this morning to lift weights.

I ate an ounce more protein yesterday, for dinner, and was so full I had to talk myself into my evening snack. ( a good thing!) If it is this hard in the future, I will have adjust my fat intake during the day to include more and not wait until the end of the day.

You'll figure all this out! Much of it is "over my head." Good for YOU! Weight is coming off quickly too!

I took a break from stitching and browsed through a few articles on Low Carbing and came across this person......could not believe what he is saying! Truly Unbelievable!!

OH MY GOSH>>>> incredible. I noticed there was one comment about testing fasting glucose then eating a bowl of pasta and testing. Proved he was wrong right there. This guy is dangerous...... Unfortuntely, there are still too many Docs out there that believe this.....

What I am finding out right now, is that I am not eating much protein and losing. No insulin response causing me to retain or gain weight. So far, for me, this is big, and I think important to know.

DAY 9 July 24, 2012
Weight 149.8 (down 3.5 lbs in 8 days)
Fasting Glucose 86

1898 calories
32 g carbs (17 net)
87 g protein
164 g fat

I am going to try to add more calories in today, to keep it up to the 1800 level. Have to drink some cream or add another Tbs of coconut oil.

I got the strips I ordered from Canada and they are the same. About $2 a piece vs 6 dollars from Amazon. I did find out that after the order, they send you an email that tells you to call them, if you don't they call you and basically ask you to repeat the order to confirm it. I was not happy about that, but I did NOT have to give out my full credit card number on the phone so that was good. For this price and if I can't convince a local pharmacy to order, then I will buy from them again, if I need more.
Here is the Precision Xtra Advantage meter I am using, it is well priced.

And here are the Canadian strips.

So Arlene could you put this is EXTREMELY simple terms for me. Just the relation of protien/fat/carbs. Don't get technical on me because I will be lost. I'm serious. Obviously this is working amazingly for you and I'm realy having trouble following I think because of the insulin/glucose stuff that I don't relate or need to relate to so if you could take that out of the equation in might help. I'm a very simple girl and losing is my primary concern LOL

Congrats on your success! Message me if you don't want to clutter up your page

This experiment is really working out for you Alrene. That weight loss is just terrific in 8 days.

You must feel very encouraged by these results.

DAY 10 July 25, 2012
Weight 150
Fasting Glucose 86
Fasting Ketones .6 I MADE IT!!!! *

1828 Calories
28 g carbs (14 net)
87 g protein
157 g fat

*Since I did not test yesterday, I could have slipped into Nutritional Ketosis on day 7 or 8, whichever day, it feels good to know I am here. My mouth is just a little dry, nothing like it was the first days, my eyes are fine, and I have energy galore. Yesterday I had to force food to keep my calories up, two Tbs of coconut oil with my macadamias last night. I had gone back to one ounce of HWC in my coffee, but this morning, I used two. Anyone who goes this route will find they are going to very consciously add fat to their menu.
I was actually glad to see I did not lose any weight yesterday, as it was becoming expected and now I will see what it will do. Right now I am going to stay at about 1850 kcalories a day.

Hee hee, last night I dreamt of hiking up a mountain with my daughters and eating an energy bar half-way up. It was sugar filled and had nougat all through it. I have no idea where that came from. It is almost a year since I started LC and do not remember any dreams of off plan food before!

DAY 11 July 26, 2012
Weight 150.2*
Fasting Glucose 80 –Lowest in a long time.

1721 Calories
31 g carbs (17 net)
63 g protein
155 g fat

*I will give this a week and then look at lowering calories. I would like to lose 5- 10 more pounds. This is not the reason for this test, but might as well use this process!

+++
Been doing some thinking while at gym. I cooked some chicken breasts earlier in week and have been having them in salads for dinner this week. I have been pushing the protein on myself - more than I probably need for hunger, and will start lowering it today and see what happens to weight. I think I was losing when protein was lower. If that does not work, then I look at calories.

It definately makes you take a hard look at what we are eating.... Maybe you are as sensitive to protein as I am. We all know we are sensitive to carbs. Sure could not hurt to try!

(Just added this to above post. I think protein is a big key for some, me included)

I do wonder about my protein level as well. It is certainly something to think about.

This process has made me so much more aware or how protein is processed in my body and I think it has show me where I can make a differenc beyond carbs.

My problem is since I am not losing and actually going up the scale, I simply don't know which way to turn or what to try. I am kind of in a holding pattern at the moment, frustrated but not sure which way to go.

This might just be a great experiment for all of to do. If nothing else we would find out like Arlene is, how these ratio's affect us.

I will be going away for the week-end and our 45th wedding anniversary is Monday, so I thought I might give this experiment a try starting August 1st....nothing to lose, but maybe LOTS to lose which would make me very happy. I think too much protein could very well be troublesome to me as well.

Have a great week-end eveyone.
