Steal my thunder? LOL I don't have any thunder to steal. I, again, congratuate you on the working plan for you and your family. I am one that did not stall on the bars, but then I only had one once in a while, and now that I am pretty much at maintenance, I still only have one once in a while. My neighbor can have all that Russel Stover sugar free candy and only have one pc a day, me? I would eat the whole darned bag so I have learned to make treats with 90% dark chocolate, coconut oil, shredded coconut and almond butter. yum.......

Hi All...I started the New Atkins diet (induction) on the 24th of Feb at 116 kg (255.2 pounds) and I am now 107.4kg (236.3 pounds) I have a long way to go but I know but every loss is getting me closer to m goal
![]() My weight loss was slow and steady at the start then I had a few days where I was not losing anything. Luckily I keep a food diary and the times when I stopped losing was the times when I had the sugar/carb free lollies and sugar free red bull. The common ingredient in them was Maltitol and poly (something sorry cant remember the name of the long one) So in short they were taking me out of ketosis. ![]() Once I realised this i was tripple checking the food lists on everything. My ketone sticks were never the dark purple always the second darkest which I thought was ok. I was loosing around 0.5 kg every second day which I was happy with for sure (except for when I had eaten the sugar/carb free lollies etc) I was also having an Atkins Breakfast bar every day, and sometiems an Atkins snack bar in the afternoon as we are aloud 2 a day on induction. Once I learnt that they too have maltitol in them, I stopped them and have since been dark purple on the ketone stick and lost 3kg in 4 days. Has anyone else found this with the Atkins bars or am I just super senstive to Maltitol?? I am too scared to order any low carb producs online as I dont understand what might next throw me out of ketosis so is there anything else that I should be looking for in the ingredients to avoid?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I look forward to learning and sharing on the forum. ![]() |

Hi Steveelea,
Welcome!!!!! Congratulations on your great weight loss! You are really on the right track. And congratulations on finding one of the things that are problems for many! Artificial Sweetners! They can stall many for several reasons. You are one that they do cause problems for, some can eat AS and not have a stall. Others stall with dairy and ohters, nuts, but the most important thing is that you kept a great food journal and could go right to what it was that caused it. I have several boxes of the Atkins bars in my garage, but they are not coming out until I am offically on or past my goal. I did take some with me when I traveled and was glad to have them, but I do not use them here at home. I do use Sugar free jello, however, and it does not stall me, but I don't want to eat the bars, because they are almost triggers for me, they are toooooo good! Good to have you here sharing your experinces with us. |

I cannot eat the Atkins bars either without a huge STALL! It is wonderful that you found out what causes you problems, dealt with it and moved on with a good weight reduction!
I too enjoy the no sugar jello with a bit of cool whip and feel so satisfied. Welcome and keep posting! We are a good group on the same journey towards the same end. Jo |

What were they called...frankenfoods...lol. This is such an educational journey, you are going great, keeping a food diary is so important, something I wish I could stick with for more than a week...lol. Do you use a site like fitday? It calculates everything you are eating an puts it in a nice little pie chart for you...a great site! Good luck
Happy low carbing |

If you're in ketosis and not suffering any ill side effects, you ARE losing important weight. Your body is going to do what it can to fight that, and if your body can't fight it your body might disguise the fat loss by conserving water, etc., but hey as long as you're heading in the right direction no need to panic.
As for food choices, if we look at it in a certain way, it's simplicity itself: If what you are about to eat was not recently alive, it is not food. |

My body has tried to reject losing weight almost all my life.......even going to weight watchers and things with family and friends and everyone would lose the right amount of weight and me doing exactly the same would either stabalise or gain. Even the lap band could only get me so far so I know that I just cant have carbs in my diet.....its as simple as that. Still struggling but will get there I just cant wait to drop some more weight!!!! I just want to get to my next major mini goal being under 100 kg (not sure in pounds what that is at the moment I will have to google)....I dont even care if I am 99.9 I will take it I just want to be in double figures! |

Atkins Bars are fake "low carb treats"! No wonder you don't lose any weight! I would stay away from those things and other fake "low carb" candy bars and pastas if I were you. Have a piece of cheese or some almonds instead and if you have time there are lots of Low Carb High Fat-snacks recipes out there: Like Bounty and Cheese Crisps! And sweeten with Stevia and/or erythirol instead: they are natural sweeteners!
Found a link about Maltitol here: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nut...a/maltitol.htm |

We were eating the Atkins bars as well, I need one once in a while when u just have to have something sweet, but I am not sure they stalled me, I am loosing slow but okay with that, I just started on this site but registered on Atkins about four and a 1/2 weeks ago, we have all lost me 7 pounds my husband 17 and daughter 16 and we are not loosing everyday, I am use to the old school low carb when I originally started back in 77 I use to eat 60 carbs a day and I lost 30 pounds in a 3 month period of time. Which got me to were I was happy, 165 I am not one of those people who feel I need to weigh 125 not my bag. I use to at my all time high weigh 275 which was before gastric bypass surgery in 1996, this was a big mistake not against the surgery of today, don't really know anything about it but for bypass don't do it. Anyways good luck guys and keep in touch...

Sandy, go to the Progress threads and start your own. We carry on good conversatons over there.
It sounds like you have good goals for you and your family and you are doing well so far! I know how you feel about the Atkins bars, sometimes you just need something sweet. So far you are losing but if you stall, then maybe that is what you need to look at. Also I think if you can find a replacement for craving the sweets, you will do better in the long run. It is much better to crave a dill pickle. LOL |

I am looking forward to all the support I can get. I am still going but not losing much even though I am in ketosis and following induction to the letter....I may start increasing my fats I think. |
