The Rise Of The Adult Playground

I love the idea of free outdoor gym equipment. If it gets people exercising even a little where they otherwise wouldn't have, why not?

Omg I'd love to swing, do monkey bars, slide, climb...somehow I don't think adults could play nice http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue2.gif

i have seen these kinds of things in europe, mainly in germany, on woodland trails they have a series of obstacle course

idea being you simply follow the trail but have to negotiate some wooden obstacles en route

not sure if it would work in north america we would need some kind of drive through version

Be a lot more interesting for drunk teenagers, instead of them just getting stuck in the baby swings, passing out and needing to be rescued in the morning.

Reminds me of the challenge courses at Boy Scout summer camp. As a leader I had to show the kids I could still do it. That and the climbing wall and mile swim used to kick my ass. By the end of the week i wanted to go back to work.

In a park near my home town in New Jersey, there actually is one of these. It's more of a fitness course, but there are wood+metal obstacles along the way with charts that show the muscles used in each activity. Some require strength, others balance, some a mix of both. It's pretty neat, actually.

We have one at the end of the walking trail that runs behind my house. I've never used it, though.

I've seen these in my local park (estate of Walton) and even used them while with my football team during training.
