Default Veggie question
why does dr.Simeon's protocol not allow green beans or cauliflower? Also he basically advises to skip breakfast except for a tablespoon of milk in coffee. I very much appreciate him finding this solution but is some of the info outdated? Sorry if I offend anyone, its just that I need to eat breakfast of some kind and I don't see some veggies such as broccoli harming this plan. Anyone's feedback would be appreciated.

Hi,
Dr. Simeon included the foods that he found to be the most optimal for the majority of people for the best weight loss. Some people tweak it and it works for them, others try and have bad results. My understanding it that he did test various vegetables and meats as he narrowed it down to the original protocol.

I often would break up my meals and eat a portion of it for breakfast. This doesnt present a problem.

thanks for your response. I was going to actually tweak it and add different vegetables but seeing your reply makes me have second thoughts. I know the vegetables he listed are very "green" low carb types. I bought some green beans yesterday before I read "pounds and inches" for the second time. The second time I read it I saw the limited veggies he allowed. I am going to read it again today ( lol) to see what else I missed. I am glad I can skip the bread sticks though. I had a lot of trouble wanting more when I ate it, even though I wasn't hungry. This isn't a new feeling to me. I prefer sticking to paleo slash atkins food plan for this very reason. Thank you again!

We don't know why he chose the ones he did, but he did write in P&I that he had tried all kinds of food and the ones he chose worked best. I've been to Italy and they grow and eat a lot of vegetables there. I can't imagine he didn't try the standard vegetables of broccoli, green beans, cauliflower and zucchini, so they must not have worked well enough for most people to be included. He does say you may eat the fruit and breadstick between meals, so you might try those for breakfast. The biggest problem with including foods not on the protocol is that you may find you can't stabilize after losing weight. It isn't just that you won't lose weight.
