My dad has type 2 diabetes, and a whole range of other health problems (a stroke and two heart attacks, plus psychosis twice). He has skinny, skinny legs, and then a typical, huge, German beer belly. He injects insulin daily, though his blood works have tremendously improved since he started limiting his carb intake. Told him so.
With the German media picking up on HCG, my mom is slowly opening up about the whole hormone thing. There is no way a doctor would prescribe hcg over here, so I really would like to know more about the dangers or side-effects when done with diabetes. It could also be that my parents are willing to do this together... my mom wants to lose some weight. And I have still enough HCG here, so I could easily share and order more stuff. |

When on the VLCD he would need to monitor his blood sugar levels religiously and perhaps adjust his insulin dosing accordingly.
I am/was a Type 2 diabetic. It is controlled down with my losses and diet. I also carried the largest amount of my weight in my middle. When I am on VLCD my morning blood sugar level is considerably lower than normal. Because of the low carb nature of the VLCD he will likely find he needs less insulin. He'll need to be really in tune with his body in regards to this. I had a few mornings when my BS tanked. I'd never experienced it before. I was disoriented and stumbling. When I finally checked it, it was 55. I ate some strawberries and part of a tomato and it brought the level back up within half an hour. He may do well to space out his fruits from his meals or even split the fruits so he has 4 smaller snacks. |

Just talked to my mom - she *might* ask our doc, but wouldn't do it without her okay... and that won't happen. I just wish my dad would switch to paleo... it drives me nuts to know that we are constantly waiting for the next stroke or heart attack to finish him off. And he just eats CRAP the whole time. Doing a nutritional seminar twice each year, it seems, which holds for 1 month or so... then back to fatty cold meats, buns, bread, and bananas.
His current fad - easy-spread butter. So butter with vegetable oil. Great, more Omega-6. The cheap cold cuts? Filled with sugar and factory meat. And don't get me started on the German obsession with buns, bread, and potatoes. It is probably a lost cause... I just cannot help it. He is 63, and will not see 70. He is starting to develop Alzheimer, is on heart medication, insulin, and antpsychotic drugs, and already has two stents. He just doesn't care. |
