Injecting my thigh
... is starting to hurt. The doctor advised me to inject on the top of my thighs, but I seem to be especially sensitive there.
What are other injection sites I can use and does it make a difference in how the hcg works? --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=39.130568,-121.614908 |
Are you doing IM or SubQ injections?
|
I found that it got more painful as the round went on too. However, I think that for me it was because my skin was really dry and rough and it was harder for the needle to go through. Also, the site was sore from daily injections. I would switch thighs periodically and that seemed to help.

@stacy I don't know but I would assume SQ? How would I know for sure?
|
Are they teeny little 1/2" or shorter needles? Those go just into the fat under the skin, so are called subcutaneous. Longer 1.5" needs are thicker (so they don't break off) and they go into your muscle, so they need to go into densely muscled places like your butt or your thigh, and are called IM or intramuscular.
If you are doing SQ, you can do your tummy, your love handles, your thigh. Anyplace that you have a nice little pad of fat. They don't hurt at all, although I did find one little pencil eraser bruise on my tummy the other day. |
you are right will follow you@ )

I assume if you're injecting in your thigh you're doing sub q - I found using the skin just over my abs was easy for that. If you're doing IM you may find that it stings more if you're tense (or wiggle). You could try injecting in your shoulder / delt instead.

I mix my hcg with a little B12 when I draw up my morning shot. No pain at all.
|
@ Badkitty - I think they are about .5" long… thank you for that info!
|
Then sounds subq. I alternate from right muffin top, to right belly to left belly to left muffin top! Then back to the right!
I take my needle, and just push it into my skin (not all the way in). And yes, some places are more sensitive than others. So if that one seems nip-pish, then I move a centimeter to the side and push against my skin again for a few seconds. After the sensation goes away, I just push it harder into my skin until it goes in. No pain. It's almost as though the hard pressure numbs the place so the needle goes in pain-free. |
I am starting my first round tomorrow and the nurse today told me to inject into the top side of my thigh about 3 to 6 inches up from the top of the knee. I thought these injections would be subQ but the way she described it, after reading some of the posts here, I'm wondering if they are IM. Mine are .2ml and the needle is about .5", maybe a little bit longer. The nurse said to sit down near the front edge of a chair and be on the ball of your feet so that makes the thigh muscle more prominent. She said to NOT pinch the skin but rather to place the thumb and pointer finger together and then place them on the top of the skin, and then separate the thumb and pointer finger (so basically rubbing the skin while making it taut/tight), then inject into that taut area that is between the thumb and pointer finger. This method makes me think my injections are IM but I thought a half-inch needle would be too short to enter a muscle.
Any input would be greatly appreciated since I begin in the morning! I would prefer to inject into stomach but she was adamant that thigh is ONLY area to use. Upon reading the documents more closely once arriving home, her instruction/information doesn't totally match on other points as well. Can I inject other places? Will my results be better if injected into thigh? What tells you if an injection is IM or SubQ? Thanks a bunch! |
You won't be getting into the muscle with a half inch needle. Alot of folks use the thigh for injections.... I use it to switch things up a bit now and then. I tend to bruise more easily there, so I have to be careful. I would start out using her instructions and see how you do. If you want to tweek things closer to the original protocol as you go along, that's fine too. Hopefully she isn't saying more than 500 cal per day are ok, or that you can eat different foods than on the protocol....if that's the case, get back with us and we will try to help you sort it all out. http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png.

Thanks so much for responding! Yeah, getting a 1/2 inch needle into a muscle seemed impossible to me but why did her instructions mention muscle and why all the "muscular" type steps, ie on ball of feet to tighten that thigh muscle & taut skin?? Why not just pinch the skin and inject the magic potion. http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png
And no, she didn't alter food protocol at all in her instructions. She just seemed kinda the my-way-or-the-highway kind of nurse. Maybe a bit on a Nurse power trip?? LOL She said I absolutely could not use a fruit or breadstick as a snack, that I had to eat just two meals a day (lunch & dinner), but their documents she gave me say you can flex those couple of items from mealtime to a snacktime if you want something between meals. Then she told me that she's NEVER had anyone lose more than 28 lbs in 28 days, that you can expect to lose 1/2 to 3/4 a pound a day, but their documents say in two places that you can lose 1 to 2 lbs a day or more. It was just odd to me that her instructions were contradictory to their documentation. My daughter is doing an hcg program but with a different office and they were just more flexible in their instructions...stick to the 500 cals but flex your fruit or breadstick if you want, people have lost up to 140 lbs in two rounds with them, inject in stomach using pinch method...just to name a few differences. Thanks again! I do want the absolute best result and she is a nurse so I will use her method at least until next week when I see her again. http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png DJ |
I have tried all the usual areas and the one on my stomach, a few inches away from the navel and below it to the right...I can never feel. Strange, but I can feel it on my left side LOL I never pinch now and it works fine. Maybe everyone has their spot, but it is strange how I can not feel it go in at all when I do it there. I kept bruising and feeling it when I did it anywhere on my thigh and they are heavy....

Tensing your quad muscle sort of stabilizes the sub q fat on top of it, making it easier to go straight in with the needle. Using the gather (not pinch) method does the same thing.....there are a million correct ways to give a shot http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png. I'm an advanced practice nurse, so I know. http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png. As far as breaking up your meals....don't know why she's being so strict on that...other than to get you used to the empty feeling and not confuse it with hunger....but you will learn that by breaking them up as well. Maybe she is just trying to pass on the pearls that have worked for her. Take the good from it, and let the rest roll off you. |
