Default Heinz NO sugar added ketchup...is it OK for p2?
It does not have any sugar, corn syrup etc.

I used to use it to make a BBQ sauce and would love to do so on this protocol if approved

Thanks!

Ketchup is not on protocol, but tomatoes are. I looked at the Heinz website to try to find the ingredients, but their website is useless and annoying so I couldn't find anything. I would guess it has items in it that we cannot have. And while we can have tomatoes, I think having tomato paste is stretching it. It is your decision. Of course, the ketchup would have to be your vegetable for the meal since we can't mix vegetables.

Here's a list of approved foods:

The 500 Calorie diet is explained on the day of the second injection to those patients who will be preparing their own food, and it is most important that the person who will actually cook is present - the wife, the mother or the cook, as the case may be. Here in Italy patients are given the following diet sheet.
BREAKFAST: Tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar. Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours. Saccharin or other sweeteners may be used.

LUNCH: 100 grams of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat. Salmon, eel, tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed. The chicken breast must be removed raw from the bird.
One type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.
One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast.
An apple or an orange or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit.
DINNER : The same four choices as lunch.

The juice of one lemon daily is allowed for all purposes. Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweet basil, parsley, thyme, majoram, etc., may be used for seasoning, but no oil, butter or dressing.
Tea, coffee, plain water, or mineral water are the only drinks allowed, but they may be taken in any quantity and at all times.

Perhaps this recipe: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,2355...234206,00.html could be modified to replace the ketchup with tomato that is pureed in a blender and substitute the brown sugar for honey and it would be on protocol?

Ok, bummer (for me at least!)

I read the ingredients and it contains *sucralose* (splenda) which is so so so bad for the body...I am not going to use it.

HOWEVER...that being said; a trick I learned a few years ago doing SBD. Now, this is not the healthiest of things so just know that I do not know how it is for p2 HCG, but here goes: lol

The ONE thing I love about BBQ sauce is the sticky thickness of it. I am going to occasionally use 'Stevia 0 calorie cola' and reduce it then add my seasonings and tomatoe paste or sauce (NO SALT ADDED type) and voila! There will be a bbq sauce

I will try it this weekend and then post how it works

Hi,
I have made a very similar one with roasted garlic and a pinch of cayenne and smoked paprika as well...just really reduce it and it is great!
How about something like this? I haven't tried it and I don't know who created it.

"Smoky BBQ Sauce"

- 2 T sugar free tomato sauce
- 2-3 T water - 1/2 t dehydrated minced onion
- 1/2 t red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 t sugar free liquid smoke
- 1/4 t paprika - 1/4 t chili powder
- 1/8 t cinnamon - 1/8 t cloves
- 1/4-1/2 t sugar substitute (if needed)
- salt/pepper (to taste)
1. In small non-stick saucepan, combine all ingredients and bring to boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer 20 mins.

I went to Pic Med for my HCG and the diet they gave me is a little different from yours: What do you think about the changes:

Here's a list of approved foods:

Here in the United States patients are given the following diet sheet.
BREAKFAST: Tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar. Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours. Saccharin or other sweeteners may be used.

LUNCH: 3 1/2 oz or 100 cal of veal, ground turkey, lean beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, shrimp, Albacore Tuna, One Whole Egg+3 egg whites or eggbeaters 1/2 cup cottage cheese, or tofu.. All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat. The chicken breast must be removed raw from the bird.
50 calroies of one type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, collard, kale or mustard greens, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, culiflower, green beans.
One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast.
50 cal serving of one of these An apple or an orange or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit.

So I have a few more choices can that make a difference? I am on day 13 of P2 and I am down 10.8 pounds. I have stalled and Mon, Tues and today was at the same weight.

i use it once and awhile - hasn't affected me - but I also think when protocol was written they didn't have a lot of the items they do now - also I use franks red hot sauce - no issues but everyone is different

I can't recall the brand at this moment, but @ my Whole Foods I found a Sugar Free organic Ketchup.

The list of ingredients was: Tomatoes, Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic, Salt. ( if my recollection holds correct )

I've used it with some Dusseldorf mustard to make an AWESOME topping for ground beef patties, like a burger and also have even mixed it into the ACV salad dressing I use.

I'm gonna look for that. I tried making barbacue sauce that adhered to protocol with tomato paste and it was a disaster. Ketchup is so much smoother.

No peas definately - too high in carbs - green beans aren't protocol but some eat them with no problems - I haven't tried them yet as I'm not sick of cabbage or asparagus but I did buy some just in case
