Question about using broths

How does that work? Do we just need to make sure it doesn't take us over our calories? Could I do a soup with chicken meatballs and spinach as long as my total calories don't go over 500? I'd like to make french onion soup with beef broth and chunks of steak for dinner!

chicav, I use broth in a box...look for msg free stuff, and low fat for p2. There are alot of makers of it...if salt bothers you, look for a low salt option. The stuff I use is like 10 cal per cup...I sometimes just drink it between meals, makes me feel like I had "soup" even if i didnt.....lol! Just read the ingredients....rachael ray makes one, swanson makes several, and there are alot of store brands. Remember it does count in your total calories, but if you go with the low fat ones, there really arent many calories. http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png

Perfect! Justnthe info I needed! I have a few soups I want to try out this week for some variety. I want to do an Asian chicken soup, a meatball spinach soup and a french onion! I'll go today and seeif I can find ones that fit that description!

Hi Chica.... I have a soup going in the crockpot as we speak...I use the low sodium, organic beef broth, I've put my 100 gram each 8 pieces of beef, (already previously cooked from a roast in the crockpot), added LOTS of organic sliced celery hearts, one small chopped organic red onion, and three large cloves of chopped organic garlic. I'm going to get 8 portions out of this, with the loads of celery counting as my veg., so I wouldn't do too much of the broth at one meal, since it's not really on protocol and screws up some people's results... so the pot I'm cooking would probably amount to about 1/2 cup of broth per serving. Hope this is helpful! http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...es/redface.png

Its not exactly off protocol, so I wouldn't say its not on protocol.....you are treading a very fine line there. I tend to err on the side of ....if it didn't exist in Simmeons day, and he obviously didn't mention it..(duh)...but if it fits otherwise, its probably OK....of course you have to check for yourself...but most of us do use the low fat broth without any problems.

I used the Veggie broths a lot to make soup and loved them. Just remember if you don't use the veggie broth keep the broth and meat together. So beef broth with beef and chicken with chicken broth.

Good luck!

Fail! Well that wasn't good. Made a tasty chicken meatball soup with ginger and green onions and organic free range fat free low sodium no msg broth. I gained .4 pounds. Turns out it had organic cane sugar http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/frown.png

yep, you really have to read the ingredient list on the box. I was looking at broths the other day and saw several had the cane sugar listed, and others had honey. Found one without either and use it w/o problems so far.

I have found that problem with broths also!!! Ridiculous! Must they put sugar in everything?
