I don't count it, because coffee dehydrates you.

according to what I have read, yes, your coffee and tea do count towards your liquid intake.

Caffineated coffee or tea does not count as your water...only herbal/decaf coffee and tea count towards water. Because the caffeine does dehydrate us.
Protocol says we can drink as much coffee or tea as we want but to also drink at least 2 liters of H2O a day

Yes they count. New studies indicate they are not dehydrating. Here's what DR. S says:

Tea, coffee, plain water, or mineral water are the only drinks allowed, but they may be taken in any quantity and at all times.
In fact, the patient should drink about 2 liters of these fluids per day.

Also I've begun to wonder if we encourage TOO much water. Drinking so much strips the body of electrolytes. I feel better when I hit P3 and don't drink 120 a day but more like 80 oz.

I didn't used to either, cc! But I'm seeing more weakness etc from people on the protocol except those who actually DON'T increase to huge amounts like we're used to. :-(

I would assume if you drink coffee and tea all day and no water, that can't be good, right??

Well a new study I read last week seemed to think it was just fine. LOL Your body still gets the liquid it needs.

LOL!!! Coffee isn't as bad as we used to think. It's an antioxidant. You can tell I'm a coffee fan! :-)

I know this thread is old, but thank god I found it!!! I have been trying so hard to get my 2 liters of water in, but it's freezing in my office and the last thing I want to do is drink cold water!! So I've been downing herbal teas. I was so hoping that would count towards my fluid intake. But it is annoying. I'm constantly running to the bathroom! I'm lucky if I can make the commute home!!! I'm a corporate trainer, so really does not help to have to run out of class all the time to hit the potty!!!

And coffee is my godsend. It cuts my appetite just enough to keep me from going crazy.

Dropped the ball while making a breakfast quiche for a mountains trip this weekend and snakced on some of the chicken sausage.... upa pound today. Ooops. Sigh... drinking as much as possible to flush it all out!

Thank you so much for this post! I joined the site last night because all my google searches on HCG kept bringing me here.

Yesterday was R1 P2 VLCD 2 for me and it was a horrible... I realized I drank about 3L of water plus 20oz coffee, something I'm not used to drinking. I only dropped 0.8lb in that day although I was starving. I think I had too much water. I just wanted to flush my system & drinking water feels good to me when I feel weak/empty.

Grammy- do you think this was my problem? Off topic- is lean turkey really not allowed in P2?

I'm brand new to this and started a bit unprepared. I don't have health insurance and could really use some extensive advice, especially with Thanksgiving coming up. If anyone has the time/willingness to help, please PM me or comment on my blog so I will see it. Thanks.
