Swap fruit for protein? Staying in Ketosis.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has tried removing the fruit in exchange for a bit more protein. I am always in ketosis until I have the apple and then i seem to come off. I figured that removing any form of sugar (melba and fruit) may yield better results? Is there any reason for the fruit other than to add more calories.

Currently I do not eat the melba and stick to one apple a day. What do you think? Worth a shot?

I do not do any fruit or melbas. Instead I eat 3 or 4 egg whites with sugar free salsa for breakfast and I'm still losing steadily. I'm so sick of apples and strawberries and I have to have my breakfast, otherwise I would not succeed on this program. I don't know how I did it the first time! Oh and I also have a protein shake mid-morning (Herbalife vanilla) mixed with water. Helps me with hunger issues since I'm so close to my goal I find myself getting more hungry. Basically I'm getting a ton of protein, some veggies (cauliflower, green beans, asparagus, & tomatoes mainly). I kinda went off the protocol and it's still working and making me stick with it!

Yes, I think you should switch the fruit for extra protein.

There's pros and cons. I swapped out my second fruit right off the bat in R1 for a hard boiled egg in the morning. If you do give up your fruit, be sure to get lots of veggies in, for the fiber and also because your brain needs at least 20 gr of carbs to function properly. The downside of going without the fruit & melba in lieu of protein is that you may have difficulty later when you try to add carbs back in.

Hi, thanks for the reply! Since I'm in Ketosis then my brain should not be using carbs, but I see what you mean about the fiber issue and also about stabilizing later. You know what, the protocol has worked great for me for 2 rounds and I should not go and change it on my final round just in case I cannot stabilize properly. I'll have my apple http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...lies/smile.png Thanks so much!

Wow Jennifer your ability to stick to your goal is totally awesome. I am new to hcg -- having done my load days and am now on VLCD 2 and lost 5 lbs this morning. Yesterday, I honestly didn't even feel like eating any fruit, so I have one portion of Swedish Diet (40 calories) and only protein with hit. I really wasn't hungry at all and was worried that I would get into my habit of once i Start eating then I eat and eat. Just my newbie fears and I am hoping that if I can get past the first week then I will break the habits of have of eating muching really after dinner. Last night it took all my thoughts to not munch on anything while watching TV. Any ideas you have will be greatly appreciated.
HAve a great day
Lisa

hey nhlisa, i'm on day 34 of VLCD (doing a 60 day run, lots to lose). I remember being a bit cranky and having some hunger cravings for the first few days of the diet. I believe it's quite normal and has to do with carbohydrate withdrawal. But i didn't run into any binge eating episodes even though i am prone to "comfort eating". I my hunger cravings are normally easy to cut by just drinking a good amount of water! Make sure your water intake is good throughout the day and you hopefully won't have any issues.

Hi there!
I was reading your post. In my first ROUND I chose not to eat the fruits or melbas because I wanted to go into Ketosis. And boy, did I ever!
My dipstick was super dark. I loved knowing that my body was burning FAT!! And if I had a day where I craved something sweet, I'd have a few
strawberries, which were low in carbs.

I ended up losing 25 lbs. in 30 days!! I can tell I've really shrunk down in certain areas of my body, thighs especially.
And for these past 3-4 weeks I've been on P3/P4 foods and have never really gone up more than ONE pound either way, and I've
eaten popcorn, had wine, eaten out in restaurants.... I just don't over do it. (except when I load, then I gain a little ...... http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums...es/redface.png)
This never happened to me in the past. I'd lose the weight, only to gain EVERY pound back. Not with this plan though.

This plan has is an absolute MIRACLE!!!

Can't wait to begin ROUND 2 !!

Can you post a sample menu of what you were eating to maintain ketosis? Were you simply cutting out the fruit and melbas, and eating an equal number of calories in protein? Or something else?
