When you first begin dieting, you may lose weight quickly and easily. But as your diet continues, your weight loss may reach a plateau, even if you're exercising and eating healthy foods. Don't be discouraged -- instead, continue focusing on eating a variety of healthy foods in moderation and getting exercise most days of the week to break through your plateau and hit your weight-loss goal. Talk to your doctor before changing your diet and exercise routine.

Thanks for posting the risks of rapid weight loss. It's important that we know the negative effects of losing too much weight in such a short period of time. I'm sure that dieters have been on this situation at some point in their lives because we all want to see the effects immediately. This post should make us think that it's not all good but could hurt our health.

You're welcome kathy. I had to learn from my experience. When I was younger and didn't know about dieting too well, I thought that dieting means not eating. I didn't exercise either so what happened was I got the body I want but I suffered from acid reflux. I also experienced mestrual irregularities and I was always dizzy. The negative effects are definitely not worth it because it's too painful. I'd rather focus on proper diet and exercise.

I think most of us who don't really understand what dieting means, to us dieting is skipping meals and depriving yourself of foods. I was like that too when I was younger http://www.dietforums.com/images/smilies/smile.png. After years of yo-yo dieting and joining this forum, I learned that what I was doing to my body was not healthy and not helpful at all. Although nowadays my sleeping habits has changed a lot because I stay up too late working for months now and I normally wake up late and can't eat breakfast anymore. I just make sure that I eat something when I get up like an oatmeal or a sandwich to keep me energized. Bottom line is don't feel bad if your weight loss is slow because rapid weight loss either is not good for you.

I completely agree with Dazzler's list and there can be even more serious health conditions that could develop from rapid weight loss. I also tried a few rapid weight loss options (starving my self, skipping meals, completely cutting carbs, etc) before but sad to say, none really had given me the best results. At some points, I lost weight but maintaining the new one was always the hardest part. Worst than that, I jumped from one option to another because I keep starting all over. Although most didn't result to serious conditions yet, it felt like I am rapidly losing my stamina as well and it did affect my daily routines and my attitude at work. I also felt like I suddenly aged a lot, I was always feeling drained even before the day ended. It was then I realized that rapid weight loss only stresses the body and that losing weight needs a lot of thinking and patience. A sexy figure won't happen in 2 weeks or in a month, it needs the right discipline and a certified physician that specializes in bariatrics. I finally did consult a doctor and I am now happy to slowly see the great results of the weight loss methods he recommended and of course w/o having to compromise my whole health. http://www.dietforums.com/images/smilies/smile.png
