Default Coconut Oil During P2??
Before the Protocol Police turn on their sirens and scream for me to put my hands up, I already know that coconut oil is NOT on the ORIGINAL protocol... and I just wrote at the top of this post, to clarify that for any newbies reading this. I'll even add this... even IF you got your HCG from a clinic and they recommended coconut/MCT oil, it is still NOT part of Dr. Simeon's protocol.

With all that said...

I have heard that it helps some people get better results, and for others, it causes them to gain. I have searched and read lots of posts about this topic on the forums, but it's hard to figure out the "general consensus" with all the same people replying on them all. In other words... did 20 people try it... or did the same 5 people tell their story 4 times each. LOL

I'm curious to find out how many people have used coconut oil/MCT oil while they were on P2... and what kind of results they got from it. I'm tempted to try it, but kinda nervous to do something that might make me gain or stall... or slow my losses.

How better to figure this out than a poll??

PLEASE VOTE... and share your story below in this thread.

I cook in stand I use it on my skin. I only do the skin thing when I can't stand the dryness any more. So maybe twice each cycle?

I rarely use Coconut oil and when I do use it I use only a little. I haven't had any stalls or gains from the Coconut Oil. I originally was going through a clinic and they told me to use MCT Oil which I did... I never lost weight, I actually gained weight and I had explosive diarrhea from the MCT Oil. After spending hundred at the clinic and not loosing 1 pound... I found this forum and have lost 14 pounds!!! =)

Hmmmm.... from the sound of it so far, everyone who has tried it has had good results...although most of us are afraid to try it.

I know that some other people tried it and had scary results, but I don't remember who that was. **shrug** Maybe they will jump on this post and share their story too.

For those of you who have tried it, can you please share your story?? Did you ingest it, or just put it on your skin??

I have used it with good results but when I over ate it I noticed a gain. If I make a salad dressing and use it sparingly, I had good losses. Also I made chocolate delight and ate it during a stall, I lost over 1lb, if I wasn't stalling and overate it I gained..but I also cheated that day as well. So I guess my anecdotal evidence isn't very conclusive lol.

What is MCT oil?

When I first heard about the hcg diet, it was reading a blog by a patient who was doing the diet through a plastic surgeon, and the protocol he had her on included 1 or 2 tsp of coconut oil and apple cider vinegar daily. I have always wondered if this was part of Dr. T's protocol...

I decided not to experiment with coconut oil on this round: it's my first and I really don't want to mess up resetting whatever whotsit's meant to be reset. It would be great to have more data on this, though, because I'm a huge believer in the power of lauric acid et al. Coconut is so healthy, and previous to P2 I tried to eat it every day. If the numbers bore out and I felt that it was valid (though rogue) I might try it on a future round.

I tried it last night and woke up to 1lb loss, but it was not the ONLY variable in my diet that day, (and I kinda expected about a 1lb loss that day for other reasons anyway), so my experiment is not over yet... and maybe I would have lost even more without it. I will try it again tonight, without any other variables and see what the scale says tomorrow. If I lose more than usual, or the same as usual, I will try it a 3rd day in a row and make sure not to change any other variables from my usual diet/progress.

It's a blend of medium-chain-triglyceride oils. Coconut oil is approx 66% MCT, so it's commonly used in place of the "blend" of pure MCT, I assume, because it tastes great and is easy to cook with.

MCT's used to help people burn fat and a few other great helth benefits that I just learned. Here's the eHow on it... http://www.ehow.com/facts_5664953_mc...used-for_.html

I heard it could help break a stall and I was in a 2 1/2 week stall, so I made chocolate delight (I also did a steak day one day), but I've been eating 2 pieces of it each day for a week and I've lost 8lbs in the last week.

I used a LITTLE MCT oil to cook about 2 times a week on round one and I had far better results that round then I did on round 2. Could just be the round 2 curse though. I hated round 2 with a passion and had zero willpower. No issues stabilizing on either round.

On another forum I read, several people had good results in P2 with coconut oil/MCT in that they felt it sped up their weight loss. However, they could not stabilize in P3 no matter what they did. One person had this problem on 2 rounds where she used the coconut oil every day. The fat blocks the HCG hormone, so proceed with caution.

Good to know, maybe I'll hold off til P3 for any more. I sure don't want trouble stabilizing!

Yes supposedly the oil can disrupt the pathway to the hypothalamus and cause it not to rest. So while you may lose fine, you also may really struggle to stabilize. That's the reason we don't use oil products on our skin as well.

I use it often in p2...especially to cook my fish and chicken in!
I also make coco crack a lot during p2. My losses are great!
I wouldn't say it's the coconut oil that speeds my losses, but
it doesn't negatively effect it either.

It's so freakin' healthy it's not even funny. I am happy it doesn't
stall me or make me gain in p2.

Can either of you please clarify where you obtained this information, (which other forum), and/or what method you used to come to this conclusion? I'm not second guessing you, but I'm really curious about how accurate it is because there aren't many people doing CO/MCT on this board, so I don't have many people I can question about their stabilization issues... or lack of them. For example... one question that comes to mind is: How many people had stabilizing issues after doing P2, taking CO/MCT... and did they stick to the P3 Protocol the whole time? (no starches, no sugars & daily weigh-ins, followed by an immediate steak day if they gained above 2lbs)

In case you're wondering... NO, I'm not looking to start a revolt or suggest that anyone starts using CO/MCT off-protocol. I'm just a very logical thinker, and understand that there are tons of variables out there, and it appears that there aren't many subjects available to easily find an answer to this question.

Can you please let us know if you had any issues stabilizing after the Round that you mentioned above? Also... how many rounds have you done? How many of them were with/without MCT/CO?

Caressa & MomOfFive.... Can you please let us know if you had any problems stabilizing between Rounds? (... or after your Round, if you only did one.)

My information came from a set of videos I purchased from an HCG doctor I trust, Dr. Dennis Clark.

But the issue with oils in general comes directly from the protocol itself. Pounds and Inches cuts the fats way down and requires that we don't use any fats even on our skin.

Grammy... Thank you for sharing your source. According to wiki and howto, MCT/CO doesn't operate in our bodies like a fat. It somehow functions like a carbohydrate, but with more calories, although our bodies have no way of storing it, so it literally goes in one end and out the other. I'm not sure what difference that makes... if any. The studies on CO/MCT only seem to date back to the late 80's... so I don't think Dr. S would have had that information to work with back in his day.

I'm more curious about the success/failure of people who have tried it... and their short-term and long-term results after using it.
