First Single You Bought
Can't remember which of these I bought first but these were the first singles I bought, I remember they cost less than £1 from Top... something or other, the leading record shop at the time, all on 7 inch vinyl
|
Wannabe - Spice Girls. I was about 6 or 7.

I'm pretty sure the first 45 I bought (had my mom buy) was "School's Out" by Alice Cooper.
|
I've never bought a single. At the time they cost like £3, and I thought that was a rip off, since I got about that a week. I preferred instead to save for 3-4 weeks and get an album.

We used to play Spice Girls at Primary School. We sang their songs and did the dances and pretended we were the spice girls making music videos. I even bought their movie *hides head in shame* |
I think mine might have been the Spice Girls as well http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/ninja.gif but it was 'spice up your life' or something, not wannabe.
I don't have it any more, but I do remember wanting to be Posh Spice because she looked really classy on the cover, even though she was wearing a see-through green minidress. |
I didn't buy singles either, because I would just tape them off the radio onto my cassettes. The first album I bought was Brandy...something or other idk when I was 12...I ended up throwing it away lol.
But I recall saving for months to buy a CD playing stereo so I could play the Nsync CD my friend bought me for my birthday. It was a glorious moment. |
now theres a question
this rings a bell |
Goodbye yellow brick road...yikes..I'm old

It was either Brandy by The Looking Glass or Sunshine bt Jonathan Edwards.
|
I never bought singles... the closest I've gotten is buying The Aeroplane Flies High, which is the collection of singles and B-Sides from The Smashing Pumpkins Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album... and getting a single as part of pre-ordering an album on iTunes.
|
I'm apparently way too young lol. How did singles work? Was it a tape/cd with just one song?
|
45 rpm records on vinyl about 7 inches in diameter. When I was a kid they sold for about 49 cents. A side was always a hit and the B side was usually garbage.
|
I think it was Prince's Purple Rain. I still have it, actually, an a purple 45. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...smilies/24.gif

This was the first single I ever owned. It was a 45. It was given to me. If my 5th grade teacher ever hears this song again it will probably send her over the edge. She let us bring records to play during homeroom. I was one of the only one who owned a record and so we heard this over and over again. Laughing at the memory.
|
I know it was Blondie...I can't remember if it was Heart of Glass or One Way or Another.
I just looked up when they were released...holy, I'm old.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/eek.gif |
Sit back and enjoy!
