johnuioyer 04-16-2010 11:17 PM

yeah, Genesis, Yes, Marillion...definitely have

qzgCVHex 04-16-2010 11:20 PM

Good choices, until the last band, at least.

10traistintarry 04-16-2010 11:30 PM

Thank you thank you for the British Invasion. There will never be another time like that. To understand it you needed to have lived it. It's unfortunate so much of " today's music " is the way it is.

padlabtard 04-16-2010 11:38 PM

always wanted to see Queen with Freddie, tho'

whatisthebluepill 04-16-2010 11:40 PM

Agreed, we've certainly provided our share for the world (in my opinion). I wonder why that is?

Espacamlisa 04-17-2010 01:16 AM

You know, I agree with some of those bands, but several on that list are just make my ears bleed. Then again... "the best bands" tends to be a very subjective thing.

The earlier ones ie: Beatles, Stones, Joe Cocker et el are the ones I'm talking about. I'm not much of a fan past 20 years ago. Those bands did so much to change the definition of rock and roll. I can't imagine what type of music would be around if it wasn't for the likes of them. Like I said before you had to have lived it to understand.

Here's a few more I liked...

Animals
Spencer Davis Group
Small Faces
Dave Clark Five
Herman's Hermits
Manfred Mann
Moody Blues
Gerry & The Pacemakers
Dusty Springfield
Cream
Yardbirds
Lead Zepplin

The list is endless.........

Pataacculakp 04-17-2010 02:28 AM

You mean some of the most overrated don't you?

If you're talking to me you are much too young to understand.

I was talking to Ian.

There is no question the Brits in the 60's had a ton of groups

When it comes to jazz and blues though you will find I think much of it originated in the US

A lot of the Brit groups from back then got their chops from listening to the blues and jazz

It all is good though

like who?

scemHeish 04-17-2010 11:17 AM

I know Dana thinks the Beatles are overrated, kinda strange seeing some of the hip hop he likes listening to is influenced by them.

dwestemesse 04-17-2010 12:21 PM

and not one of the bands i posted have stormed onto a stage at an awards ceremony to ruin a 17 year old girls big moment

Maphpseurse 04-17-2010 01:13 PM

Despite some recent poll that was full of crap, Manchester has always produced the best music from England.

The Smiths
Stone Roses
The Charlatans
James
Oasis
Buzzcocks
Joy Division
The Verve
Take That (in terms of success, if not quality)
Simply Red
The Ting Tings
Happy Mondays
New Order

America might have invented the blues, but it took us to discover it! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...smilies/24.gif http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

When it comes to bands, the best bands are British. Although, Ian, I think you should very quickly take Oasis and Coldplay off that list before people realise they're English and we're too blame for them.

But the best songwriters are American\Canadian.

As for guitarists, we're about equal. Wa'hey! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/thumbsup.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

YpbWF5Yo 04-17-2010 09:04 PM

I know I am in the minority, but I have always loathed the Beatles.

When it comes to "classic" rock I am more of the

Iron Butterfly and Doors persuasion than anything.
