Default Hip Hop Megathread - IT'S JUST TALKING OVER MUSIC, NO TALENT HACKS
Okay so who loves hip hop? Let's use this thread to discuss and recommend good MCs/rappers/whatever you want to call them.

Well, to start off, here are a few of my favourite albums:

Eminem - Slim Shady LP
It's just masterful. It's cartoon-y, over the top satirical violence. It's also hilarious.

Dalek - Abandoned Language
Some of the nicest beats I've heard. A really capable MC spittin' over noise/drone/industrial beats. Not always easy to listen to, either. They described this album as David Lynchian and it's true.

Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust
I love Sage, he's near the top for passion put into his music. He's experimental but not overly so. Slow Down Gandhi is an amazing song, same with The Buzz Kill.

Isosceles - Face the Music
This might just be my favourite rap album, not sure though. It all sounds so desperate and it has one of the saddest rap songs I've ever heard, Hate To See You Go. It's a shame that these guys changed their name to TWIN, and then started making whack music.

anticon releases some interesting stuff but some of it is hard to classify as rap. But we'll throw that in there anyways. Then you got your classics like Rakim, Nas, Organized Konfusion, etc. That's good for now, I don't wanna just list as many as I can lol

todays rap music is garbage. there is NO originality at all in today's rap music. its the same shit rehashed in every song where they talk about riding on big rims, platinum fronts, and what other dumb shit. give me the mid 80s to early 90s rap music where they talked about having fun and doing crazy stuff.

Thanks!

The title is kind of low key hostility, though. Going on as many forums as I have in my years, I've had the, er, honour of seeing a lot of ridiculous opinions so I just constantly mock them! Yay!

I'd love to see u together a rap album... A good rap album. If you only listen to abstract hip hop of course it's all going to seem like talking. Because they choose to use long drawn out haiku's to make their music sound more poetic and intellectual. When in fact it is unnecessary.

With your last post, were you talking to yourself?

And also, what difference does it make if they're white or not? Are you one of them? 3 of them are white, Nas, Rakim and Organized Konfusion are not white. I'm not sure what Dalek is though.

Would it make you feel better if I listed some non-white rappers/groups that I like?

KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, NWA, Tupac, Immortal Technique, Slick Rick, Blue Scholars (I think? I've never seen them), Common, Mobb Deep, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool Keith... etc

Waah.

My favorite artists are Lost Boyz, Nas, Naughty By Nature, AZ, Rakim & Artifacts, Slick Rick, Das Efx, although I like it all to a degree even the over populated southern crap. The southern hip hop i like the most are the artists who don't try to get into this crunk/snap vibe.

Outkast
Good Mob
Flo Rida
Chamillionaire
Jim Crowe
Smilez & Southstar had a great debut album....
Trick Daddy
I like Webbie
Yung Joc

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. And sorry for your loss. You will be in my prayers. LOL NOT - I don't pray. Praise be to Allah though.

Moving on.

I haven't used last.fm in months but here's a screenie of my top played artists of all time. There are tons and tons of artists missing that I absolutely love due to my lack of usage of it lately (I used it for at least a year or two straight) and I'll post some more in depth hip-hop shit later since I absolutely love hip-hop, but for now this pic will do. Don't get mad at me because I don't listen to just one genre pl0x. You will be able to tell some of my favourite rap artists from this screenie.

It's obvious that The Roots are my number one favourite musical act period, forget about just Hip-Hop. A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul are up there with The Roots, for sure. I've been listening to crazy amounts of De La Soul lately though so it isn't fairly represented on the charts. Man, that song "Much More" is fucking unbelievable.

Here's a video of De La Soul performing it on Chappelle's Show a few years ago. Fucking amazing shit.

MySpaceTV Videos: De la Soul - Dave Chapelle by ]MiKe[

Some other artists I've really been into lately are the entire Hieroglyphics Crew/Souls of Mischief/A-Plus, and CunninLynguists. CL are an excellent example of quality southern hip-hop. Check out this video from their new album "Dirty Acres". Just about every track on that album is top notch.

Anyways, I just got home from work so I'm very very drained but when I get some more energy I'll post some more hip-hop related stuff. Man... Hip-Hop is one of the main essences of my life and no other genre has done for me what hip-hop has. I hope there are other enthusists on the boards other than me and the OP, lol.

Edit: Also Dana, man come on, why's race relevant at all?
