Default What is wrong with my daughter listening to
upbeat, (albeit secular), music like Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, etc.??

My ex's new(ish) wife of almost 2 years had decided to ban secular music in my 7 yr. old daughter's world. She is now only allowed to listen to "Christian Contemporary" and "Hanna Montana", (because Hanna Montana is so Christian based... ). Even though my ex, (who just bought a box set by Tool, lolz), doesn't do this himself.

Retarded hey? Well, I decided against this. For her beeday, I'm getting her an ipod shuffle, (or something along the lines of...), and filling it with the music that she has loved listening to for years and the music she loves listening to while being in the car with me.

And, I've told her, (Kate - the wife), this. Haven't gotten a response to that email since then....lolz

Sounds like a religious nut to me! Personally, I'd think that listening to Christian music could be far more damaging to her than a bit of Kylie!

Hell yeah Elle you tell that Bitch she had nothing to do with the making of your daughter and you will be damned if she is gonna act and play the role of the mother.

Yea, everyone says that.

I understand the reasoning to censor you youngin's music in some way. For example, my oldest was never allowed to listen to gangsta rap and what not. He never wanted to, anwyay.

But a little girl, one who is really, really fond of upbeat, dance music, (much like myself - guilty pleasure stuff)...I can't see how this would "damage" her in any way!
Jeesh, I grew up with my mother listening to Black Sabbath, and the like around me! I never grew up worshipping the devil, because the music leaned towards that notion. I guess I was smart enough to know that this was just music, not a lifestyle that I should adopt.

I feel that she is OVER sheltering my daughter by doing this, too.

There's nothing wrong with it.

I grew up listening to Madonna and other dance music.

Crazy fundamentalists... when are they gonna learn that banning something only makes it more desirable???

OMG, hahahah.

It's funny, because my son, who is a big, huge BMXer, wears alot of BMX/Skate logo'ed clothing. And one particular brand's logo, or some shirt, had some sort of "cryptic looking" graphic on it, and she questioned it, if it was satanic.

lolz

Something which Madonna knows all to well. I wonder if some of her stuff would have been nearly as popular if it wasn't for religious leaders getting up in arms about it. You cant buy publicity like that!

Hmmm...wonder what she'd make of my friends "Jesus is cumming" teeshirt and the image which it has on it which you probably can guess.

IN fact!! I just remebered this...I always pointed my oldest, (son), to the Tom Petty song, "I Won't Back Down" as a song of strength and inspiration as he goes through his tough preteen/teen years. And the lyrics, truly are, (inspirational). So really, she is banning SO much music that is clearly just fine!

It's secular music in general!

Pretty much, you know how you MIGHT be killed by a stray nuclear bomb while driving to work? So, might as well ban driving and stuff.

LMAO...

What's funny is she DOES approve of those "Christian Rock" bands. I mean, because really, tatted up, makeup wearing, hairsprayed men are really just perfect representations of the holy nations!

Kind of reminds me of that King of the hill episode where Bobby got in with some Christian rockers. LMAO!
