Ha ha...
Well, it's something I just can't stop doing. Plus - having spent all those years on the beasties pages and through beastiemixes, I've come across some people that offer great feedback and advice, and well as some rather dope mixes. It's a shame we're all so far apart that we can't meet up and go for a pint. Good to see Ajax ( looking good for the Dutch title!!) frequenting here, and when some of the others like Zap and Cosmo, guy incognito, PWN, et al find thier way over it should be quite a good board. I'm gonna have a good snoop around the main boards now and see what the regular users are mashing / remixing. I love working on the beasties stuff but need to try some other sounds. Chro' |

I think I'm real close to quitting!
All I do is work, when I don't I'm with the kids. Quit smoking 4 months ago and haven't had an ounce of creativity since. Plus, why should I make tracks for someone else when I can f***ing rhyme on them myself? Then it's a real kick in the teeth when you play bass, guitar, keys, and scratch on all of your own stuff, then some yup that sat on his Mac at Starbucks and put the Beastie vocals to a Radiohead track gets treated like a friggin' musical genius!? So, sorry for the rant but...I'm uploading the rest of my B-Boy mixes to my site, uploading some other crap and probably calling it a day. The whole remixing scene is f****ing whack!!!!!! It lacks originality! Plus I really forgot how much I love ROCK N' ROLL!!!!!!!! I'll take a distorted guitar over a played out drum loop any day!!!! And what's the point if there's no George Carlin?!!!!!! |

I've got an even six-pack in my belly right now, so we can talk honestly.....
I love the site, I love the scene, but the Beastie remix scene is pretty dry right now, it's been a few years since the last album was released, people are tired, people are tired of remixing the same pellas'. The guys are waiting for something new. I follow the sites numbers almost daily, checking the daily traffic to the site, checking the download numbers, looking up who is linking to the site, everything.... If someone links to the site, I want to know so I can go and say thanks or whatever. I've seen the traffic to the site go up, and down, and then back up, and then back down, times when you would think people would be on vacation is when the traffic is the worst, Summer, and around Christmas, the same times when people are on vacation. The Beastie Boys Remix board is practically dead right now, and these forums (the Beastiemixes ones) aren't doing much better at the moment. Increased or decreased traffic doesn't affect me one bit actually, I've never mad any money off of the site, so more traffic doesn't help me, but I love to see the high numbers because I know that the guys are getting exposure. It's the same reason why 90% of my time updating the site every night is spent fixing the mp3's ID tags, so that when the mix is passed from one person to the next, it can be tracked back to the DJ's page so he'll get MORE exposure. Obviously I'm not in it for the money, but I feel it's almost my duty at this point to help out where I can. The original mission of the site was to give free hosting to guys who didn't have their own sites, and to act as a place where you could come day in and day out and reliably find mixes that you've heard about. I'll toot my own horn here and say that I think I've accomplished that, and I will also say that I don't LOVE all of the mixes that have been uploaded, and some are just, well, ok, but I promised myself that I would NOT discriminate on quality of mix, equal opportunity hosting is what I told myself and I will continue down that path... I don't know who you think is being treated like a rock star, I have my ideas, but I'll keep them to myself. If you can play instruments, dude, go that way!! I would love to be able to do that, I took some guitar lessons, but still can't play... The remix scene is seriously not dead, but I think some of you guys may need to branch out a bit. There's only so many times you can remix the same 18 or so pellas. And if you want to branch out, I can host you too (not you Ajax, you already have a cool site, but if you ever need it, I'm here) [You cannot see the link as you're not logged in. Click here to login or here to register.] has TONS of free space and bandwidth. Mixtapes, Mashtapes, hell, at this point, If you want to do all of your own instrumentals, and vocals, I'll host that shit up too, I'm easy...... I'm running out of things to say at this point, but Ajax, keep the faith... I've got more than a few of the guys on the site I've talked to who are taking some time off. If you quit, and ever decide to come back, be sure and drop me a note, as I'd like to see what your time off has inspired. Take care Ajax, and the rest of you guys.. Silence7 Your Humble Host.... |
