I remember buying the "City to City" album back in the Days of Vinyl. It seems as though that album is no longer with me (likely donated to a sibling in my move from the Chicago area to the Philadelphia area).
Of course, Gerry Rafferty was the voice behind NOT ONLY "Baker Street" & "Right Down the Line," but also Top-10 hit "Stuck in the Middle" (you know- "Clowns to the left of me/Jokers to the right/Here I am..."), by the short-lived entity "Stealers Wheel." Reading between the lines of my (very old) edition of the 'Harmony Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock,' it seems as though the man had a life-long distrust of Professional Management- a distrust that didn't always work to his benefit... |

You just had to mention that, didn't you?
"A life-long distrust of Professional Management" and "a distrust that didn't always work to his benefit". Those are they lyrics he got hung up on, getting the writers' block that dissipated him. "Hey, hey, jing jing, get offa my cloud". It could have been that easy, but he let those words get away. Yeah... that song needs an update... getting up into the cloud is what's happening now. |
