Can someone move this to member announcements?
I just came back from the "Boys of Rock" tour and I gotta say, I was really impressed. It was an idea I threw around in my head, a last resort show I was going to go to encase Warped Tour and Ozzfest was something I wasn't able to go to. I wanted to do something really awesome this summer and well..."Boys of Rock" was all there was for me. So I went with some good friends of mine and saw Buck Cherry open now me? Im not a big BuckCherry fan. I have an old album of theres that my brother bought years ago...I popped it in once to my cd player and that was it, unimpressed with the genre. So tonight I sat there and saw them play all there radio played hits and to my surprise they were really catchy, down to earth and filled with so much integrity on stage they blew me away. They nearly tore the roof off the Post Gazette Arena and I really recommend any fan of rock to see these guys atleast once, there set was just bad ass. Everything was cool and so was "Cocaine" oh and of course "Crazybitch" and there old classics. Next up Papa Roach, another band who's last cd I listened to was a burned copy of there first one. Besides there Radio hits, the original first album was all I knew. They came on stage and immediately took over the crowd with a ****ing amazing set that blew me away more than Buck Cherry. They started off with there new material from "Forever" to the theme song they use on Monday Night Raw to (is it home?) and even "Getting Away with Murder" (Which made me think of Moose) man was that ****ing great live. Then they kicked into there old stuff, as Papa Roach's head man pointed out "Old School" they really brought out the older fans including me with Dead Cell, Last Resort, Broken home including the older track which name I can't recall "Theres no money, theres no possession, only obsession I dont..." you get the point. One of the high points of there set consisted of the head man jumping off the PA system straight to the stage as a giant roach blasted across the titantron behind them, it was really awesome to see and sent chills down my spine. Pretty much they stole the show despite Hinder headlining. All in all, I once considered them disposable rock but I have found a bigger respect for these guys. Say what you want about there forgettable tracks besides the radio hits but they put and leave a %110 on the stage..****ing amazing. Finally we got Hinder who had a huge intro on the titantron that had them exiting a plane, getting in a limo coming to the back of an arena door which played up to them coming to the stage through an "entrance sign" as they did a curtain fell and they hit the stage like ****ing rock gods, the set was amazing and was so touched up with so much shit it really added to the whole experience. Hinder written on the giant screen to two light screens next to the drummer's set to a catwalk with stairs and ramp behind them, although they did good there sound was off and sounded too scratchy and fuzzy to be perfect. Although I have a copy of there work on a cd I gotta say besides the song "It's such shame shame shame" (I know thats not the title but I dont know much of there work but I know all there lyrics from "Extreme Contact" or whatever it is and "Get Stoned" the whole set was nothing defining but impressive as a finishing act. The lead singer remade "Born to be wild' with Papa Roach's head man as he entered half way through the set as they performed it live, it was a really energetic edgier and harder version and worth seeing sometime. They performed "Better then Me" "Lips of an Angel" and other radio friendly hits (including two (but forgettable) new songs that are about to be put on there new album. Get Stoned was ****ing amazing to see live. The whole arena went "hemp green" and the screen rained weed all over the screen. As soon as the song started the whole place started buzzing with joints being lit up it was ****ing amazing considering nearly 3/4's of the sold out crowd was smoking, the police and security team simply let them go since it was useless to stop. By the end of the three minute something song my clothes were reeking pot but not like that was a bad thing, I got high as **** coming back home after that song and im sure the crowd did too...awesome ending. Personally in the end, in order of best bands that night it was...Papa Roach, Buckcherry (not by much) and then Hinder but all in all a really good show to see and definitely was more then a consolation prize for missing Coheed and Cambria and Killswitch Engage at Warped Tour. Go check Papa and Cherry sometime, I totally gained a higher respect there mainstream acts. |
