So my Girlfriend, I, and my best friend all had free tickets and guest passes to the 311 concert on Thursday at the Palace in Auburn Hills, MI. We get there, and our names weren't on the guestlist at first. So just driving nearly 5 hours were began to worry, but finally the woman's (the lady who had gotten us on the list supposedly in the first place) husband came down and got it sorted out. He said he was too busy that night to accomodate us as guests, but got us tickets. Well that was a bummer, but the tickets were only 20 feet from center stage so all was well.
First thing I did was go get me a Jack Daniels and then we sat down. Pepper opened up the show. I was under the impression that Pepper was a shitty punk band, but they turned out to be AWESOME. I think I may have liked them even more then 311. Not that 311 were bad or anything, just these guys seemed to have a good feel up there on the stage. I'll have to check into more of their stuff. Then the Wailers (Marley's old band for the uneducated) came out and I got excited. The first thing they said was, Who here remembers Bob Marley? and Everyone erupted, and coincidentially; you could smell marijuana everywhere. Their set rocked and everyone was into it. Very relaxing and the vibe was great. Unfortunately, I lost half my hearing two songs in and really couldn't hear much of the rest. Then 311 came out and everyone went nuts. They fucking NAILED Beautiful disaster and down. Much better then the album versions for sure. There was only two songs I really didn't care for and they were both slow songs with actual singing vocals......and his vocals suck to be honest. I also noticed that the main singer from 311 acts VERY feminine and has some of the all time worst dance moves of this century. But great show none the less! During the 311 set the guy next to us told us to listen for GAP because it was the song he requested. He apparently knew the drummer from The Wailers. He said we could follow him after the show to get backstage, and we did =D. Talked with The Wailers alot, really nice guys. They're always just so chill and seem like nothing bother them. I talked to the 311 guys for a bit but they seemed so rushy, well except for their guitarist Mike. He talked to me and my GF for a long while. He was a very cool guy as well. Then I talked to the two Pepper guys and they were hilarious. They said to get out of the Palace as fast as i could because tomorrow (friday) night My Chemical Romance and a bunch of other emo bands that like to touch little boys were going to be in town. It was a great night though ^_^. PS. Yes, the Wailers smoked alot of pot backstage, they're jamaicans after all. |
