But at least it's not as bad as country. "I worked on the farm all day then took my T-Bird to the bar and got drunk". Really cute.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not much of a country fan myself.. but as long as we're trying to be open-minded and trying not to stereotype music into a broad category here.. people are kind of ignorant about the message in country music. Yes, many of the songs are just about women and beer and "hick-ish" things (but much of rap is about women, and bling, and "gangsta" things), but there are good country songs out there, too. Now granted, many of these topics don't have as much that maybe a younger crowd can relate to, but there are songs that deal with living life to the fullest, long lost love, watching your children grow up, those kind of things.

I dunno. I just often see people talking about how others need to see the good messages in some rap music, but then they toss in "atleast its' not as bad as country" and then reference it all being about trucks and women and hick things. Not all of it is..

(Primarily a rock fan btw :P)

I'm inclined to agree pretty strongly with UB on this one. The whole general "black music" term is kind of weak. Rap music is predominantly black, yet there are plenty of black artists who don't fill there music with "girls gone wild"
The simple fact is that sexy girls sell. Why do you think "girls gone wild" is such a bit hit. Why do you think the WWE has all these no talent diva search wanna be's? Because people want to oogle their bodies on TV.
I recently watched a pretty cool video by some artist Armand von something or other ca;;ed 'Say my name" (I think thats the name) now the song was pretty good and all, but the fact the only thing I really remember about the video is that is had literally dozens of scantly clad babes in it. The selling point wasn't the song...it was the girls.

There "rap" videos don't sell because of the masterful lyrics or musical skills of the artists. They sell because of the half naked babes gyrating on the screen.

Of course I really enjoy the babes so I can certainly understand why they make them. The music industry is a business and its all about sales.
Hopefully one day it will be more about music.

Yeah when i said "black music" i mean Mainstream Rap and R&B. The stuff you see on BET and MTV every 30 minutes. I guess its all about selling, that is true. Right now Rap is very popular, but i think its just because alot of people want to be "cool" so they go with what is "in". Im not blaming black people as a whole, but its those black people that make this stuff that i get disgusted at. Maybe my concern should be toward the channels that allow this to be viewed on their air. If they didnt allow it and sex, bling, violence didnt sell, i think 50 cent and Nelly would be out of business, or be struggling to make a good cd. Personally i like Nas, 2pac, Wu-Tang, and maybe tupac has had a suggestive video...but most of them have a good message. I really havent heard anything in the last few years from Nas so im not sure what he does now. I hope i didnt offend you UB, or any other person that happens to be black.

I'm not one of those black dudes that listens to nothin' but rap. I listen to almost anything BUT country, heh.

....the way you say, "black music", what would ya say if white people listen to it as well? is it still "black music"!? can't wait for ya to explain that to me!
you cant wait for me to explaine "black music" to you? I already explained it in my 2nd post.

Any white kid that listens to a song saying *****, my bitches, my ho and i'm a gangsta deserves to end up in a ghetto to learn what exactly life is like for these people because these are probably the same white kids who's daddies pay for them to go to prep school and buy them gap clothing. I'm white and all my white friends that listen to rap with the word ***** and have lyrics refering to thems as a ***** just pisses me off. your white your not black so get over the fact that if you ever call a black man a ****** he's probably kick your ass. Wiggers = the dumbest people on earth.

it seems you're not understanding what im saying. I said black music, meaning mainstream rap and R&B. (I DONT MEAN MUSIC MADE FOR JUST BLACKS, IS THERE SUCH A THING???) now you've convinced me, you may have listened to rap. I'm talkin' back at ya 'cause you started this topic in the first place sayin' "black music", I meant mainstream Rap and R&B music hurting "america's morals"....I guess ya kinda touched a nerve of mine.

Of course rap is hurting America, and fuck being politically correct, it's BLACK MUSIC.

All it does is glorify gang violence, theft, violence, murder, mistreating women, drugs, etc etc etc.
Yes there is alot of rap out there that promotes that shit and i dont like it but its your fault the consumer that keeps buying this stupid as shit. Not all black people fit into this "lifestyle" (how the media puts it)

And for you people that generalize music with a certain race. You all suck and probably should stop listening to any music because, there is not one style of music out there that doesn't have a white person or black person in it...

I guess it's much more easier for idiots like you to spit nonsence then learn and speak the truth.

If your talking to me I wasn't saying that. I was saying that white boys shouldn't listen to much and try to talk like it using phrase that could offend people off other races. Simply put a black person calling another one a ****** is more likely their gonna accepting of it. then if some white kid called a black person a ******.

hmm, you guys sayin' that rap music is all bad and hurting America's "morals", you actually think people like Tupac, Kanye West or Common give bad messages!? your answer would have to be NO....if anything, their music is VERY inspirational.

yes, there are volgar and bad rap songs, just like there are volgar and bad kinds of any other kind of music: Country, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, etc.

I don't understand all the blame and heat being put on rap....as I said before, it's the dumbass individual's fault for wanna act out what they hear from a song or saw on tv. ya'll just putin' on rap 'cause it gets the most attention, LOL, 'cause that's what it seems.

I dont classify music as Black or White. I love rap and i am white, personally i hate it when dumbasses say oh he likes rap hes wants to be black. Music is music, its just a preference in lyrics and the beat.

Default Is black music is hurting america's morals?
okay first off im not racist, and im not against black people, this is what what i have seen.

Okay, times have changed alot since i was a child. But the other day i turned on BET and i saw a video featuring Nelly. It had girls in thongs shaking their ass in slow motion. Even parts of the video had blur spots between the womens legs, and covering their chest. I thought to myself, what the FUCK!?!?! Im very surprised to see this on my tv. I also am aware of that 50 cent song about his lollypop, and that is just disgusting too. If i had kids id never let them watch MTV or BET, i probly wouldnt let them watch tv at all. But it seems to me that ever since "black" music became popular the morals of america have went down. At least when it comes to sex. You have an endless supply of R&B hits talking about sex, rap videos showing half naked women, and its just plain wrong. I have some friends that have siblings that are into the rap and R&B music sceen and all of them have sex, smoke, drink beer, and are under the age of 17. I find this very sad. I know that it should be the parents fault for leaving their kids do this, but thats another topic. I think if it wasnt for these videos, and this kind of music, then kids wouldnt be thinking about these things. I know that blacks are not 100% to blame, but this type of music, behavior, and videos i have seen are disturbing. Now i know most of you people on here are young, so you might not agree with this. But i wanted to get others opinion on this, and want this to be a serious discussion. What do you think?

I would say the opposite is true. Black music gives the black youth, a minority already faced with oppression and discrimination, an outlet for their energy and emotions.

If you just mean music that some would consider 'immoral' such as marilyn manson or gangsta rap, i personally would still disagree. I feel anyone with a shred of common sense can listen to and enjoy these songs without getting them out of context. I personally listen to alot of what some might call 'the devils music' and im still perfectly healthy.

But then again, if you mean is it changing the close-minded, neo-conservative far right christian extremism of middle class suburbia america then i would say you are correct. But as far as im concerned thats good thing.

Of course im a dirty liberal

To me "black music" is more death metal and such. Because it's dark, it sinister and, y'know... It's black. Rap has predominantly african american singers, but it's still not black music in my opinion. And I don't think there's anything wrong with the lyrics or the videos... That's the state of our society now-a-days.

country music is white music. It's not racist *shrugs* Now if he had said, I don't like rap music because black people sing it; that is racist. To simply say rap music is black music is not, as it is.
