I'm split.
Coldplay are great. But at the same time...Coldplay are completely redundant. I feel that there isn't a whole lot of variation in their music...but they ARE good at what they do. |
they got quite a wide audience I suppose, that appeals to people more than most bands. Im a huge fan of thier first album, but not so much the second. Their music for the most part is well composed, and they have a sound that is for the most part neutral, it dosent take any age or any genre dedication to enjoy thier music. Thier live performances are great too, which helps not only with current fans, but gets you shitloads of recognition with anyone who see's that live show.
new album dosent quite grab me tho. |
Radiohead are brilliance and Coldplay are good also, have catchy tunes but are vastly inferior to Yorke and co.

Coldplay
I was just checkin out Rolling Stone's website a few minutes ago, and it had an article about how coldplay managed to sell over 737,000 copies of their much anticiapted X&Y album last week, and it got me thinking. What in the world do people see in this band? In my opinon they are extremely over-hyped, and one of the most boring bands out there (actually that kinda reminds me of another British band...Radiohead). I liked their Yellow song they came out with a few years ago, but it still makes no sense to me to this day...why do people go so crazy over this band? I would really appreciate it if someone tried to tell me what is so great about this band, because i quite frankly cant find anything special about them.

I dunno, I'm mixed on Coldplay.
I like their music. It's soft and relaxing, one style of rock that I like. But on the other hand, they haven't progressed much at all since their first album. It's the same stuff on every CD. It's basically coming down to if you've heard on CD, you've heard them all. I hope they at least attempt to go in another direction on their next album, but with all the albums they've sold with the current style, I'm expecting them to stick with the same 'ol stuff. |
My favorite Radiohead song (I use to hate them, not so much anymore) is probably karma police.
|
Yeah Karma Police is a pretty good song as well, occasionally i'll listen to There There, but other than that i havent really heard all that many songs from them.

funnily, its thier least favourite. Listen to the lyrics of my iron lung, they dispise how people assume thier sucess was based on that song, they dont even play it anymore. Pablo honey was a good album however, and creep, i dont care what radiohead think about thier own songs, is still a great song. But the bends and ok computer, even kid-a, are superior albums.
|
I'll agree with that, creep was one of my favorite songs of the 90s.

yeah i've really noticed that pretty much all of their songs do indeed sound the same. My friend showed me their first cd a while back, and actually thought that it was pretty good, then a rush of blood to the head came out, and i didnt really hear much progression in their sound...I dunno i guess if youre into that kind of music its a good thing, but i really dont wanna waste money on buyin carbon copies of other cds..i have learned that lesson a while back from a few bands (i.e. Blink 182's Enema of the State, and Take Off your pants and jacket albums were EXACTLY the same).

I totally agree Quinn, I cannot stand Cold Play or Radio head. Everytime I hear them on the radio I change it. It's boring, I dont see why people would listen to what seems to me, to be completely emotionless music.
...What's ironic is that ColdPlay and Radio Head both are two bands hailing from England, and you can actually tell from their distinct accents when they sing. Normally when an English person sings, you cannot tell at all that they have the "english accent". Perhaps this is why it preturbs me soo much. I'll agree with Quinn again on that "Yellow" is a great song, accompanied by an awesome guitar riff. Then it seems almost every song afterwards is a carbon-copy. They basically "Stick with what works"... I hate when bands use that mentality, because it gives them no room for expanding. And then when they do that, their effect slowly wears off, and they lose their steam, and likely any chance at gaining new fans. I totally see where you're coming from Quinn, I hate coldplay as well, perhaps it's because of their laziness in broadening their music's appeal.. or perhaps its just their music.. which IMO sucks ass. Later oN *...SlasH...* |
but we all know radiohead are a far superior band to coldplay http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png
