The message matters somewhat to me, but it also depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Like, if I'm just in a crazy sort of mood and I'm pissed off at the world (which is very rare nowadays), I can throw on some Slipknot to help chill me out.
Generally, though, I don't like bands to have too much of a message; they can't be ramming it down my throats, I mean. That's why I like Stone Sour so much: they're great music, have a great message, but don't force it upon you if you don't want to hear it. |

Basically ar artists view means alot, I mean Lyrics are a key part of music, I don't listen to bands like Cradle of Filth and Black Metal, simply because why listen to music that if you think about what their singing about its actually quite scary. I listen to bands that have a symbolic meaning and somebody I can relate with, may sound cheasy... but that's the way it is. AC/DC and Guns N Roses, have that I don't give a fuck attitude...and really when it comes down to it...I don't either.

Yo~
Pretty self-explanatory, but for those that don't understand, I mean how much of your opinion of an artist is affected by their beliefs/what they sing about, etc. For me...it matters sometimes, but usually not too much. Freshman year when I was fresh out of catholic grade school, people would show me all these crazy bands like Cradle of Filth, and I still had all that religion bullshit in my head, so I was like nah...that stuff is way too over the top. I had one Cradle of Filth CD given to me, pretty tame compared to what I listen to currently, but I'd put that in my CD player and couldn't stand it. At first I didn't really like bands that brought religion into the picture, and sometimes I still think it's stupid, but now I don't mind too much. Or a more recent example, ICP, since their whole gimmick is now about God, I really haven't listened to them much. Most of the time I don't care though. There are black metal bands with Nazi influences and shit, but I'll still listen to it, it's not like they're really Nazi's, they're just trying to do something else for shock value. It's nice to find an artist that expresses things you believe in, but you won't always find bands that you enjoy musically and agree with lyrically. -Ele [ January 16, 2004, 12:08 AM: Message edited by: ElevatioN ] |

Creed. Horrible music with a Christian theme.
"Aaaaaaarms wide opaaaaaaaaaaan" Sounds like he has a fucking potato down his throat. --- I don't care about the message if it's not... christian. Most of the metal band's image is only there to shock anyway. [ January 16, 2004, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: Nabbe ] |

I like semi-uplifting music. So Van Halen is a favorite. But if a band has the 'scary' image accompanied by lyrics that I don't agree with, then that's a turn-off.
Also, I hate bands that are all about religion (Christian 'rock' bands). I'm an Atheist, so the last thing I want to hear on my speakers is "God is good, blaH, blaH, blaH". Because I don't agree wth the message or what the band stands for. |
