Default Meaningful
Its something 99% of today's music, and its audience, know nothing of. Songs that actually do mean something, that touch you inside.

Let's hear yours, anyone names Gangsta Rap songs and you fail at music, and life in general. :/

Mine is no question Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon". Play that with the speakers on full, and just listen to it: Sheer power and emotion.

What's wrong with rap? It is still music. I personally like most 2pac songs as they relate to struggle and surviving through many things. I am a lyricist and i base my songs off 2pac's image of staying positive to life.

However, since you hate most things like liverpool and rap, ill mention another song that dont collide into that path. I think REM always have a good meaning in their songs. "Losing My Religion" is a classic to me.

And I don't hate rap you tool, just don't try bring it into a serious debate about MEANINGFUL music. Raping about how many "bitchs you layed down" or "caps you busted in ******* asses" doesn't fall under that. So grow up, listen to real music and become a sensible member of society.

Yes man. Whatever you think.

What is 'Real' music dickhead? Music is Music. Simple. Different Genres means different opinions. Dont say you dont like rap automatically. Better yet, dont even say rap when you know nothing about hip hop in general. Bitch.

Caps busted? HA! Bitches ive layed? Way more then you.

Back to topic. I have a feeling it is Rock Songs you are looking for. Thats fine.

Wrong, what he's looking for is meaningful songs, songs that touch you, it's just, well, rap really can't do that.

So, back on topic?

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd is one for me. It's very deep, because, as you may know, it was written about there former lead singer/guitarist, and good friend, Syd Barrett. I won't go into the story though, cause many of you will know. And Hallelujah when sung by Jeff Buckley.

Umm i will try and post some more songs as they come to me, but a few "meaningful" songs that come to mind right now would be Under the Bridge by the Chili peppers, talkin about Anthony Kedis's battle with drugs and other 'inner demons' as well as Look What You've Done by Jet. Again i will think of more songs once i wake up a bit more, and my brain begins to function.

Everything I listen to has meaning to me.

But, to single one out ... Roger Waters performing "Leaving Beirut" at Roskilde was just bloody amazing. I never really cared for that song before, but now... man. Thousands and thousands of people singing along, every single word, combined with the backstory and the cartoon presentation of what inspired him to write the song ... words do it no justice.

Then again, most of that concert touched me deeply. I laughed, I cried, I sang, I had a fucking great time. The nice people next to me shared a couple of joints too, and that didn't exactly hurt the experience.

Realfuckingshow: That whole record is just amazing.

Shiiiiiiiine oooooon you craaaaazy diaaaamooond.

October by Evanescence...makes sense if your believe in God, very deep song for me.

Spoiler: I can't run anymore,
I fall before you,
Here I am,
I have nothing left,
Though I've tried to forget,
You're all that I am,
Take me home,
I'm through fighting it,
Broken,
Lifeless,
I give up,
You're my only strength,
Without you,
I can't go on,
Anymore,
Ever again.

My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.

I can't run anymore,
I give myself to you,
I'm sorry,
I'm sorry,
In all my bitterness,
I ignored,
All that's real and true,
All I need is you,
When night falls on me,
I'll not close my eyes,
I'm too alive,
And you're too strong,
I can't lie anymore,
I fall down before you,
I'm sorry,
I'm sorry.

My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.

Constantly ignoring,
The pain consuming me,
But this time it's cut too deep,
I'll never stray again.

My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love,
My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.

Joshua Radin - Winter.

I feel it relates to me pretty well presently, so it touches a few emotions.

Yet again: I DID NOT SAY I DID NOT LIKE RAP. Learn-to-fucking-read.

And you have no right to talk about knowing anything about music.

I've been thinking about this topic for sometime trying to remember a song that I find really meaningful. Yesterday, I found at least one: 'If I Were A Carpenter' by Johnny Cash with June Carter. I'm not a big country fan (hell, the only 'country' album I own is a Johnny Cash one) but I love this song. It's simple yet quite emotional. It's just a perfect love song imo.

Edit: I'm going to have to agree with Jenova about gangsta rap. At least about the rap that's taking up about 90% of MTV play time. You know the stuff I'm talking about? Gangsta's getting out of cars in slow-motion with big-assed bimbos; gangsta's shaking their hands; calling each other the n-word (what's up with that, anyway?), etc. I understand that many of these people have come out of the streets and I respect the fact that they've made something out of themselves but I still think the music is crap. It's not even about the lyrics. Just about some catchy beat and catchy chorus and about appealing to the 'playas' out there. That's not cool.

I'm not a rap hater though. There are several rap songs I like but the reason I like them is because the lyrics are really clever. Still, I have yet to hear a rap song that I find to be really meaningful.

Johnny Cash is THE fucking man.

Well said. Some sense does still exist in Music, people like us are rare sadly.

I'm not a rap hater though. There are several rap songs I like but the reason I like them is because the lyrics are really clever. Still, I have yet to hear a rap song that I find to be really meaningful.
Some of Dr Dres stuff isn't bad. "The Message" about his late brother being a good example. Tupac falls under the same category, "Changes" certainly had meaning to it.

I'm bored so decided to expand on the subject at hand here.

I've still got all of Dre's Albums, some of Eminems older stuff (Shady+Mathers LPs respectivly.) and even 1 or 2 of Snoops early albums. Now my computer is another story altogether, got basically the other albums aswell as other songs by colaberations. (NWA for example) Tupc, even some 50 Cent, also has place amoungst my Music.

Rap is fine, but its just talking about crap in 99% of the songs, that's just a fact.

"She's Got issues" - The Offspring, I think every guy here can probabally relate to this song. Because everyone get's a fucked up girl, or at least they turn fucked up after a while, once you get to know them really well. Seriously my all time favorite Offspring song.

"Don't Forget Me" - My alltime favorite RHCP song, Anthony Keidas breaking it down over 4 simple chords, probabally one of the softest songs they've ever done. Just absolutely amazing, that these guys produced a song, or the album "By The Way" that late in their career. Just amazing, just another reason why I want to see the Chillis before I do.. or they do.. When I blast this song in the car, I know all the lyrics. Just a classic to me, and the title says it all.. everyone wants to be remembered when they die.

"Gone Forever", Three Days Grace. This songs on their latest outing, probabally the only song I really like. But the lyrics of this song, are just excactly what I was looking for to get over my Ex, whom I broke up with a couple months ago, after close to a year. That's what music does to me, it helps me get through things. Probabally the most meaningful song of the year for me.

"It was fear of myself that made me odd" - Alexisonfire. Seriously this song is so good, it sends chills down my. Regardless off what anyone says, I love Alexisonfire, just an absolutely amazing band. One of a kind. IMO. The guitar riff in this song is mind blowing, probabally one of my favorite of all time, and if you think Alexisonfire sucks. Please honestly just try and play this guitar riff, it's flat out amazing, and as a guitar player.. I love this band.

"Start me Up", The Rolling Stones. Without a doubt the most memorable song for me, because me and like 5 of my buddies went and saw the Stones, with the Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace and Maroon 5 in front of 80,000 people. 3 of us were about 10 feet from the stage, it was absolutely mind blowing. And the climax of my life.(Not kidding)
I live for concerts, and this was the best concert I've ever been to, we went for like 4 days. And it was the best time of my life. My best friend didn't get to go because he thought he would be moving into residence, he ended up not going on to res. and he went shopping with his mother. LMFAO. So whenever we go to a friends house to drink or whatever, we always blast this song in memory of the greatest time of our life

Awesome Topic man, put me in a good mood.
Thanks Music!

Well said. Definatly one of Offsprings better tracks. Smash was a great album though, I expect nothing less even when I listen to it today. It still kicks major ass.

Actually "she's got issues" wasn't on Smash, it was on Americana (but thats beside the point)...I dunno i dont really feel that song too much, but "The Kids Aren't Alright" which also is on Americana is a very good song, kinda touches on ways young people throw their lives away. I dunno, for some reason "Dont Look Back in Anger" and "Dont Go Away" by Oasis always strike a nerve with me, so i would probably add those songs on the list too.
