well in rap all they talk about is how much fuckin money they have and how they "pimp" bitches. rappers have no respect towards females. and they say the same shit over.........and over......and over.....and over, the only thing diffrent is the beat. and now tht 2 is startin to sound the same. they have millions of dollars, lots of ho's. who f'n cares!?!? if i wanted to know there life story of how they were ghedo, and raised in the projects, now there multi millionairs and have lots of ho's. i could care less. and of all rappers i cant stand is kanye west. he gets in a car accident and thinx he deserves respect 4 it??? the dude he hit was injured far worse than kanye was, and the dude he hit has to walk with a limp the rest of his life and he also can barely afford child support. but does kanye even help or maybe pay some of the costs hell no! and now hes goin on rappin like a broken jaw is life threating...b.s. and the whole thing about him rappin with his jaw wired shut, makin it seem like a maricle. almost like a paralyzed child is walkin or sumtin. i bet he didnt even know wtf gettin hs jaw wired shut meant...give me a brake. now im not pullin 4 any particular music, actually the only kind i really like is rock. but all the others seem diffrent atleast. i mean u can almost predict what there gonna say in a rap song. and all they have to do is do some cat in the hat shit basically. wtf is so hard about tht??? i mean just rhyme to a beat... in rock atleast they tell a story, u normally dont here the same shit over and over. but anyway thts my view on rap.

BILBONDER 11-24-2005 07:00 AM

mainstream rap is total garbage try some underground stuff and people like the roots actually do have there own band.

ladleliDypenue 12-12-2005 07:00 AM

Franchise has a great point. Why do all these ignorant people always attack rap when we have dozens of pop stars out there who just sing a song that was written for them... and sometimes they just lip-synch it. The real talent in rap is the writting. The guys who only talk about the bling-bling and ho's are crap; guys like Nelly and Ja Rule. I consider that hip-hop. If you actually listen to some good rap though; it's totally different. Hate Eminem all you want, but he's writting some of the best lyrics today. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg (pre-2000), Run DMC, 2Pac, etc... listen to them and try to say they have no talent. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/rolleyes.png

arrismVam 12-12-2005 07:00 AM

I used to not mind rap but now most of the artists sound so similar that its rather annoying. Even Eminem has started to sound like the rest of them.
I like old school rap/hip hop like De La Soul, NWA, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Jurassic 5 and more but the only new rap group that I've actually grown to like are Goldie Lookin Chain and they just mock rap.
In the end though its a free country. People can listen to what they want. I just don't appreciate it when they have it blaring out in public places. I just personally find it inconsiderate. I don't mind what stores are playing when I go in. Let them play what they want.

a Microphone, and a beat boxer/master DJ

bugagasikaga 12-30-2005 07:00 AM

If you're talking about Pop-Rap then I can understand

But guys who told stories like slick rick da rula, De La Soul, Tribe called quest, Eric Sermon, Doug E. Fresh, hell tupac and biggie, Wu-tang clan, RunDMC, LL Cool J (is hard), Beastie Boys, NWA, Diggable Planets...

pennadyFeet 02-01-2006 07:00 AM

And rock is absolute shitty-shit shit shit. Come on... there are so many great rock bands out there to prove you wrong. Rock isn't shit, some of the bands are.

And now black metal is a fad. Great guitar work but again, corporate-influenced music. Hah, right. The only real mainstream black metal band is Dimmu Borgir, and they're not even black metal. Is Dissection mainstream? Are they corporate influenced? How 'bout Immortal? No, they're not.

Now everybody has to do the evil death voice from the bowels of Hell. Well, that's not too strange, since it's not black metal if the vocalist does not growl/scream. It's one of the things that defines the genre. Same goes for death metal, only here it's more of a deeper growl. Black metal has always been like this, so has death metal. It's not new.

The only listenable/great bands today are (creating new music).....Megadeth, Black Label Society, Motorhead, Velvet Revolver and the occasional prog band. You're mainstream. I had to say that. I have nothing against mainstream music, as I love Megadeth and Motörhead, but you really should try to take a look outside of the mainstream box. There's plenty of great bands out there who are just waiting for you to discover them. But, if you're gonna stick with the mainstream, it's a damn shame you didn't put W.A.S.P. on your little list, as they're easily one of the best old bands still rocking today.

And...in order for trends to change, talented artists need to be in place to usher in eras with strong material. [IE. Rock will not come back because 70s cover band JET is now playing simplistic riff rock Music isn't bound by trends. Good metal, good rock... it's present, out there. Not mainstream, but it's there. Say it's not, and you're bull shitting.

As for hip-hop... I'm not a big fan of it, but I will say there are good artists and songs of the genre. I have no problems with listening to the GTA SA soundtrack, for example. Some good tunes, some bad. Every genre has its bad and it's good. Metal has it's Saint Angers and it's Chainsaw Charlies, rock has its With Arms Wide Opens and its Super Cruels...

It saddens me that you add Nelly in the rap catagory http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.png .

I like rap and rock. Some rap I like, some rap I don't. Same goes with rock.

As for talent wise, Talent isn't what the song is about, it's the lyrics they sing/rap.

Eminem used to have alot of "fuck everyone" lyrics, he's really toned it down a bit though.

I go by this quote: The band is only as good as it's worst member.

adesseridopaw 02-12-2006 07:00 AM

Cjel, you've been watching too much television. You have to dig deeper to find the real rappers. That's how I found Royce Da 5'9".

DiBellaBam 02-22-2006 07:00 AM

1st of all the topic is about rap. now pop is another thing i cant stand. but anyway, what i said is just my opinion. i neva said i hated all rappers i like a few like eminem.im just sayin the normal everyday rapper talks about money, cars, women, and sex. and i particulary dont wanna here the same shit over and over. but like i said its just my opinion, and u guys have ur opinions. and i know rap is prolly the most popular music out there now. good 4 rap, but i just dont care 4 most rappers and there music, thts all im sayin.

Konidurase 02-22-2006 07:00 AM

Regardless of what you say, Jet is a good band they have an awesome style of writing songs, great melodies. I like bands that have a range. Alot of my friends like them as well.

Classic rock is the way to go, because then you don't have to get caught up with all this "every band being the same" propagandhi.

And I do agree COMERCIAL rap is crap, it's so predictable, and lame. Eminem I enjoy just because of his sheer originality, but I supose he is an attention whore.

Snoop and DRE are about the only respectable mainstream Rappers these days. And Dre doesn't even do it, what the hell happend to his cd release due out last year? He cancelled it, when it was like half done and then never heard anything from him since. If the rap community wants some cred, get Dre to do another album.

And as for GNR, I doubt there will never be a band of their calibre in our time, the band was so technically sound, it was amazing. I just wish I could have seen them live, I would like to go see one of their concerts soon.

As for now I guess look for good bands, and let us know about them...

Later oN

lol wow i was about ask how many times you were dropped as a child. Eminem has no talent? That statement alone makes you look like a dumbass before I even finished wasting my time reading your comment. Please head to a local studio and drop a verse displaying your multis, combos, and metaphors then you can talk about who has talent and who doesnt. In tha mean time by yourself a life at www.ebay.com instead of ranting overnothing.

boXGWf04 03-06-2006 07:00 AM

Good to see Royces name mentioned but hes not that underground, about 50% of male eminem fans know about him. But I have not heard a song in any genre with the depth of the average Talib Kweli track.

oh and who ever said Nelly and Ja were hip hop, nah.

Hip Hop is the culture of Breakdancing, Graff, DJing, and MCing.

Rap is a type of music.

I cant blame people for thinking hip hop is a type of music thanks to dumb ole MTV making a hip hop award for Em/Nelly/Justin Timberlake and all that.

And dre doesnt have talent he doesnt even write his lyrics. He had royce write a song about his dead brother .

with Barry Windham ,(late )Bobby Duncum Jr and the absolute funny (late) Curt Hennig in WCW around 1999....that was the shit !!!! http://www.gamingring.com/forum/images/custom/lol.gif

On a more serious note ,think of rap music as one "extreme" kind of music (a groove and ...lots of words), metal as another extreme kind of music (based on sheer aggressive power),new age (instrumental based on relaxation) and jazz-classical instrumental music (one based on improvisation and the other on written music).Think of pop, rock and country as the most balanced music, right in center of all those "extremes"(along with blues ,50's rock'n'roll , British Invasion stuff and so...). And other subgenres come in-between these "extremes".That's not to bash a genre, just accept rap as a valid genre. To me rap is plenty valid enough ,there 's nothing more dangerous than words.

Mind that the music industry has the way up to make stars ,no matter more/less talent- originality- so...,only if the artist have a look and personnality and talent (according to the artist's genre) and can bear the hype that music industry built around that artist,no matter the genre(rap,pop,rock...)

For example :One band that went real successful, even their are on way to quasi-legend status: R.E.M.

When they came, lots of people yelled at them "you're no talent ,Peter Buck can't play guitar blahblahblah...."

R.E.M.'s Peter Buck came at the time all those Ted Nugents,Black Sabbath and Van Halens ruled guitar rock. Peter Buck don't do those freakin' metal guitar solos. So what ? R.E.M carved their way up,their songs meant to crowds...I'm not stating my taste,it's just a fact.Rap built its way ,remember that rappers have lots of fans,we have to accept it at its very own format. For sure I love to hear funny rap stuff and having blasts of laughs ,then it's a personal taste.

Why I hate rap

Everywhere I go people ask me why I hate rap. Well I was sitting in Art class the other day, and I thought "I hate rap because people like Nelly, and 50 Cent, and Eminem have no talent what so ever." I mean think about, they talk to pre-fabricated music and thats it. at least with rock music, they sing and play instruments. so choke on that one for a while

"man what the HELL is the matter with you all they talk about in rock is fuck you and my moms a bitch that shit is so GAY!! just like you "

Uh no thats exactly the same stuff Eminem does. Him=rap.

WIth Death Metal it's easy

Play so loud and hard, and use lots of drum solos and Guitar solos...

Then go YEAHHHHH, talk really fast in a deep voice and grunt.

Talk about the devil, death...

Hell with the new rock it's all about wah..nobody likes me, my girlfriend dumped me, I have no money....wah...

I hate what rock has become, fabricated fake.

Everybody sounds the same, all the new groups coming out sound the same.

O.A.R. Sucks

Plus you can't even dance to rock.

If the beats and the guitars are good I'll listen to it, as long as the lyrics aren't all pussified...(Simple Plan, Bowling for Soup, Taking Back Sunday, New Found found glory, all sound the same, with the same whiny I sucked on helium voices)...I hate that pop rock.

I hated the invention of Rap Rock.

Only one group did it right and that was RunDMC (Tougher Than Leather is bad ass DL it as soon as possible)

Rap, Hip-Hop, and RnB may be vapid, but hey it gets girls to grind their bodies, and is nice to listen to in the car (As long as it ain't Nelly, Eminem, or Guh-guh-guh-GAY UNIT!)..

Club Hop is nice

I do like underground, I do like Sunz of Man, Dead PRez, Royce da 5'9...I do like Obie Trice, Lil' Wayne, and Wu-tang.

Hell I do really like Mase and Kanye

And if you don't get crunk to the beats produced by Lil' Jon then you sir are whack.

In the world today it's impossible to see anybody talking about the struggle, because who's struggling

the people singing about the struggle are too busy driving around Malibu, in their Escalade to care about poor people...

Who cares?

Rock is just as repetitive, vapid, and empty as any music in the world.

Hell country has been taken over by pop too...
