Dream Theater's songs also have very good lyrics, but still the songs can do without. Without good music to complement the lyrics, it's just not interesting to me.

Keenan has a great voice, and the rest of the band play their instruments well, but the music in itself does not interest me at all. In other words, it is boring.
Matter of preference. If the music doesn't have good lyrics and vocals, then that's bad music to me *shrugs*. There are always execeptions, but that's how I feel generally. Besides like I said, I, and i'm sure many others; like Tool's and APC's instrumentation.

Peace.

Really, would you even care to hear a full song if it wasn't for the lyrics? Isn't music what is most important about music? The way I see it, and I bet other fans see it another way, Tool and APC are more about mood and lyrics than outstanding technical use of instruments. There are songs that demonstrate superb skill with the instruments, but also many that don't...I guess it just depends on whether you can get the mood out of the music or not.

I love Tool's musical work (without lyrics). Same applies to APC. It's a matter of preference. With the vocals in tow the songs are generally amazing.

I guess Thirteenth Step and most of Tool could be considered boring to some. But Mer de Noms was just interesting in almost every little bit of it- still one of my top three CDs of all time.

My Top 10 Favorite songs of all time are:

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers: Under the Bridge

6) Pearl Jam: Daughter
7) Three Doors Down: Ticket to Heaven

Man, was that ever hard limiting it to only 10 songs, i'm sure I forgot some songs that I would gladly add to that list too. That was just off the top of my head.

Maynard James Keenan happens to be a demi-god with both. I don't think the instrumentation is bad either. *Shrugs*

Peace.
