BPI and Virgin Media have now stopped me from making mashups!

I will be receiving a letter in the coming weeks telling me that i'm an internet pirate and that they are watching my account to see if i download music or not!


This kinda makes collecting sources for mashups extremely hard and so i guess this will prob be a goodbye!



i say guess as if someone uploads me a rar file containing the weeks new releases and names it as icky.rar....... they ain't gonna know any different!!!!


if they look inside the rar file, which i would want password protected anyway.... then i'd do the shitty ISP for snooping and infringement of my privacy rights!!!!!!

as always confusing time... another article says i will be sent the letter but Virgin have stated that they will not disconnect anyone and so its basically the BPI who are looking at me!

Well i don't use limewire or torrents so don't think they have huge chance of catching this pirate!

I read something on this last night. I can't remember which site it was, as I got it via Google News but they quoted Virgin saying that they will send the letter from the BPI to you, but they refuse to hand over client details to them.

yeah no details will get sent to BPI i think..... its just an education scheme.... otherwise known as scaremongering!


i think its mainly to do with p2p networks anyway as they would have to packet sniff and snoop my http network and that would be way to time consuming for them!

Not true. I had a cease and desist order for hosting my boots on my virginmedia webspace ages ago and they handed over my info to the BPI before they wrote to tell me my account with them was suspended until I removed the files.

I've done some digging since my initial post. Seems like they're mostly targeting p2p application users [limewire, bittorrent, etc] rather than logging downloads of mp3 files from websites or newsgroups or similar.

Mind you, with the recent increases in bandwidth throttling they've put in place, coupled with the PHORM scandal and price rises for loyal customers whilst new customers get broadband for almost half the price I still have to pay them every month, I think it's highly likely I'll be changing my ISP after nearly 14 years for a more reasonable supplier and dumping my V+ box for freesat.
I was looking forward very much to the 50mb upgrade before the end of the year, but what the hell is the point of a 50mb connection if you can't actually use it to download anything without getting your bandwidth cut to a quarter of it's speed.
