i don't recall ever feeling like a child, and there wasn't enough supervision for me to be treated any particular way on a regular basis...by my perception, i hit the ground running and am extremely greatful for that... by age ten i had to report in once a week, by twelve, just occasionally, and was out entirely by thirteen.

My Mom and I have always had reverse roles...I had to take care of her because she was a really bad alcholic...she still looks for my approval...and try's to make me proud...no matter how many times I tell her I AM proud...she just doesn't beleive it.
I must have be her Mother in a past life, because she is always asking me when is it her turn to be the "Mom". |

I'm soon 37 and my mother still treats me like a half wit. Its ok, because she treats all of us like it (my brother and sisters).
She reminds me to pick my son up from dancing (I've lived the past ten years over seas, and when I came back and my son was 9 - I have no idea how she thinks he survived this long without her help)... lots of stuff like this... I've accepted it |

they still don't. i'm only 17, but i'm beyond my years. i'm also wise enough to realize it is pointless to try to teach them. they already have teachers they arent listening to. as do i. i've been acting like an adult for a few years now. my parents are crap and spineless so i've learned to take on new responsibilities to ensure my survival.

I agree. They try to raise us the best they can and sometimes they try to hang on and not let go. For instance the first time I took my son to daycare I cried and then again when he went to school. I still find myself hanging onto my daughter and appreciating her being small until it's time to let her grow up.
Parents will always be parents and we will always be their children. Sometimes we just need to learn how to separate what they say and try to control us and become adults with our own beliefs wether they understand or not. Eventually they will be fine and some takes others longer. In the end they love you for who you are and it won't matter. Don't stay in the child role all your life because it's not healthy but it is ok to lean on mom or dad for help when it's really needed. Love and blessings |
