Default should reiki attunement be given to small child
hi,
Do you think that it is wrong to give a reiki1 attunement to a small child. My grandson is 5 yrs. old and is very aware of energy, he receives massages, does craniosacral therapy on me (gram is a massage therapist) and he has great empathy for people. My reiki master said that it is totally wrong, but i have had a very strong feeling that this child needs to have the attunement. He doesn't understand the concept per se, only that he can put his hands on me and make me feel better. Could I possible be wrong, and cause him harm?
Need some opinions on this
Thanks,
butterblu

When I undertook reiki training I was told of many cases of children being attuned. Personally I can't see what problems it would cause.

i couldnt understand any problems with it either. my master teacher said i would create bad karma for my grandson, i do not believe that. i have decided to give him the attunement.

This is my opinion and I thought I would relay it to you.

Babies and small children are very receptive to energies. Their senses have not yet developed the protective defense mechanisms of adults.

Children can easily acquire this ability, even small children. Since no focus or concentration is required, Ususally a child can learn from the age of 6 years old. I would suggest that one let a child know what Reiki is & explain that anyone including them can be attuned so they can do it for themselves. Then once they know that they can decide if & when they want to be attuned to it or not. I don't think we should decide for them.

There are a lot of debates on what age of attunement, full development of their chakras first (usually in mid-teens), understanding of attunement, decision-making on behalf of a child.

I feel that the child has to be allowed to grow spirtually and when ready then take the responsability of learning and using a healing art, although some will be ready to do that at a very young age.

hi mecca,
i think everyone is entitled to their belief systems. If we agreed all the time we would be a dull society, dont you think. You had a valid point. I struggled with this for some time, weighing the options and i still want to give him his attunement, but i dont know when. maybe tomorrow or it may be next year. his consciousness amazes me. i feel that it is quite an honor to be able to give this child his attunement, and to mentor him in his path.
