Default Help understanding the most incredible, surreal experience
hey all,

think this might be my first post on the forums. i discovered this site through davids various interviews with henrik at red ice creations radio.

tonight i woke up from an experience that has me baffled! i'm posting this to see if anyone can make sense of it or has had a similar experience. but first a little background on me:

i'm 24 years old and originally from ireland. i'm currently living and working in the rockies up in canada. i've been here for about 6 weeks and since i arrived i've been having so many strange feelings that i kinda find hard to put into words. feelings like "i know things, but i'm not quite sure how i know them" sort of idea.

anyways this is what i posted in my blog about 15 minutes ago. it describes my experience. i had to post it somewhere because i'm confused and a little scared. the "am i crazy??" thoughts are beginning to go through my head!

so its about 5am and i've has the most mystical experience of my life. i can't tell if it was a dream or if it was "real", but whatever it was it was the most surreal thing ever. i'm having difficultly putting it into words but i'll try describe it as best i can.

i started dosing off to sleep at around 2:30 and then woke up at about 4:30 so it took place over a period of around 2hrs.

basically as i was listening to my ipod (i normally go to sleep with earphones in and some music playing; tonight it was stevie ray vaughan), i began to get pins and needles all over my body. this was proceeded by what could only be described as a build up of energy that began to rush though my body, slowly at first, and then building to an incredible speed. it was an amazing rushing sensation, getting faster and faster until i felt as if my legs were going to lift off the bed! then i heard a voice in my head (possibly mine or otherwise!) say, "just go with it." after i then "let go" it felt as if my whole body was going to be lifted off the bed. and i have to emphasise again how the energy felt like an incredible rush through my entire body.

then (and this part is the hardest bit to describe) it felt as if i could leave my body. i felt my awareness leave the room and go out into the night. i seen the stars and then i seen the stars rush past me fast and fast again until they were like a blur. its hard to describe how beautiful it was.

and the strange thing was that throughout most of this i found that i could still (if i chose to) hear the music that i was playing in my ear. that's why i'm having a hard time telling myself that this was a dream, because i was still quite aware of being awake!

then after this i definitely think i fell asleep and had a few strange dreams. dreams about situations happening back at home and me being able to visit them without be noticed by the people in the scenes. or at least i seemed like certain people couldn't perceive me whereas others could.

all very strange. as soon as i woke up i had to write this down!

and it should also be noted that i've never taken any form of psychedelic drugs. and also on this particular night i haven't touched any alcohol either.

did it really happen? i'm very perplexed and confused!

sounds like a typical obe buildup and experience. something that can become a very useful learning tool if used corrrectly.

if it makes you uncomfortable and you do not wish to pursue it simply choose not to, direct your will to your higher self and it should stop.

if you decide to pursue it all the best and remember, you are protected and you are loved, carry that love on the other side and you should be fine.

continue spiraling ever upwards,
austin

you are not crazy :d

well if you are, so are many other people who have experienced similar out of body experiences (obes). i am under the understanding that these sort of experiences are fairly rare in the human experience, and so you should cherish it! there are things you can do to facilitate the energy flow in your body, but such an intense flow of energy is something certainly awesome in the true sense of the word.

i am happy for you

yes sir thats an out of body experience, if you can replicate that first experience over and over you can do great things, it is perhaps one of the best learning tools for any aspect of your life. i have an excellent book that you might be interested in, pm if you want the pdf file of it.

yup, classic oobe!!! huzzah!

as an interesting sideline - many who have claimed abduction experiences will describe exactly the same scenario occurring. i think many of them then "return" to their bodies and believe they have had a physical experience. depending upon their level of fear, education, spiritual growth, hollywood front-loading, etc, they might end up describing any number of experiences from a full spectrum of experience: from meeting "god" to being...well...you know...probed.

which is not to say that there are not such actual physical experiences...and my love and blessings upon all who have had to endure such. but as we are told time and again by our elders - "go within."

fortysixandtwo, "you are more than your physical body..." [please email for book and author mentioned]

thanks for the replies!

all this obe is quite new to me. i've certainly come across it before in my readings but i've never paid much attention to it. but i will from now on!

it was quite cool because it felt as if i could control the energy entering my body. once i relaxed and let go it felt as if my whole body was going to take off. although i can't say that i felt any degree of panic or fear. it all felt quite natural and strangely familiar.

for the last few weeks i've been meditating on the idea that i was going to empty my thoughts out and let life flow through me. the whole "be still and know i am god" idea. i've been asking life and the universe to act through me.

i think the travelling and living in another country 4000 miles from home has been the catalyst for me to just let go of trying to control life, and instead to just go with the flow and see where life wants to lead me.

many thanks again for helping with the confusion!

hi fortysixandtwo,

i haven't got a reference on hand but usually it is estimated in scientific papers that at least 10% of people will experience an obe in their lifetime. so while not common, it is certainly more prevalent than most people realise. the question for scientists is whether obes are a real phenomenon or a delusion.

being one of the 10% i can tell you that it is a wonderful thing to know rather than just speculate. on the other hand, you must realise that to many this is a real afront to their belief system and you must be careful how you share this with others. this is particularly true in terms of your experience because you didn't experience anything to externally validate the experience and therefore it could be dismissed as a delusion. i don't believe this is the case but it will be what you will be up against from those who can not relate to this type of event.

you might find [please pm mawk for book and author] of some benefit. i don't necessarily agree with all he says but there are some good tips in his book. i think he has written several more but obviously i can't comment on them. i am no longer active on his forum but in its early days (1999/2000 approx) it was really good too. do a search and i am sure you will find it.

in my own case i have experienced more than enough to be 99.99% certain that obes are a real phenomenon. there is much more to it than just your consciousness leaving the body or in your case split awareness. if you become more active i will be happy to share/compare notes.

one of my current interests is to actually determining the relationship between mind and body. i am attempting to do this on a level that would provide a scientific explanation. my current research looks into how a "thought" (top-down process) melds with a stimulus (bottom-up process). i believe this will give us insights into the mind-brain relationship, in particular i believe it will show that the electromagnetic field associated with the brain is actually the mind. the current view is that the electromagnetic field is a residual of brain processes. however, more data is coming to light which indicates that this electromagnetic field could be linking up discrete areas of the brain through processes such as neural oscillation, synchrony and multiplexing. i might stop there before i start getting to off track.

i will finish by just saying that if you are mad your in good company:-)

cheers,

mawk

fortysixandtwo, where did you move to/from? just curious, as i've recently had a strong urge to relocate to somewhere in northern europe.

aside from that, your meditation technique is a fantastic one. run with that, my friend :-) of course, it would seem that your inner seeking has lead you to your current experience, which is sure to be a great one unfolding.

what are your techniques for obe's? for about a period of 10 years..ages 16-26 i was able to have an obe very easily and did so on nearly a daily basis. i didn't have a good understanding of what i was doing and was a little fearful...this was preinternet days i am 40 now and wish i could induce it like i could before...i feel i'm getting closer and after reading about the pineal and calcification...i wonder if perhaps my pineal was just more open bc i was younger. now i have a much better understanding of metaphysics, spirituality, etc, etc...i would like to explore it again. any thoughts, techniques.
what about ideas for reversing calcification?
