dear friends,
http://fora.tv/2010/01/13/wade_davis...e_modern_world be well, be love. david perhaps one of the most eloquent expositions ever of the beauty of ancient cultures and the debate over 'progress' versus so-called 'primitive' thought. in this recent lecture, anthropologist wade davis takes you on a non-stop, two hour journey, taking in the shamanic cultures of the amazon, voodoo rituals of haiti, the aboriginal culture of australia, the bodhisattvas of tibet, and the resilient inuit cultures of the north, amongst others. enjoy. |

david, a truly beautiful presentation by a man at the height of his life experience, and sharing without reservation a vision of extreme beauty and encapsulating something ephemeral as regards the richness of cultural diversity - and the hope of the world for coming full circle in having perhaps having reached a stage of returning to value our diversity, feeling the value of those folk who have lived for ages without having been drawn into the modern world even as we acknowlege our common and singular human heritage.
its really nice to visit with these folk, as yet there are those uncorrupted cultures which serve to remind us of from whence we all come - connectedness with and living with the earth in harmony, and a deep understanding of the oneness of us with our mother! i feel an urge to admonish those young-uns of a culture which cleaves to mother earth yet who feel the urge to embrace the tech culture of today, "child, keep each of your feet firmly planted in both worlds, and be the server of dialog and mutual discourse based in kinship, not losing what beautiful connections you have gained in your raising in your culture, nor being led astray from your roots and perspective by the siren call of modern life... teach!" those indigenous ambassadors of a true connection to mother earth really deserve our hearts and ears. this video is worth a full viewing! thanks, lighteye... this thread is for the discussing of what earth-connected cultures have to offer the rest of us. mark |
