Default i have a dichotomy of sorts
ok so I am a firm believer in the afterlife and I believe in destiny, karma and such like.

but I have always had a problem with 'religion'. I dont like to say I am religious but when people ask me my thoughts and feelings on the whole subject they look puzzled. How can I possibly believe in something like that if I dont pray to a higher being.

So I am a bit lost myself really. I kind of agree with the people that say these things to me.

I currently attend a psychic development circle and we always open the circle by asking our spirit guides to come through using gods light and gods love. Well I feel a bit uncomfortable saying these things as I dont believe in 'god' if you like. I dont know what I believe but it seems that religion goes hand in hand with the spiritual side.

I know saying god people automatically (in my part of the world at least) assume you mean the Christian god, but I know that other religions have god (or gods) too. But I dont believe in any one god. Not in a religious sense anyway. I believe there is more than what we are able to know but I wouldnt like to say they are how the holy texts portray them to be.

Is it ok to have god that is personal to you and only you? That doesnt lay down commandments etc? I dont know what to do.

And when I go to the spiritualist church we pray to a Christian god. It makes me feel such a hyprcrite for being in a church when I dont pray to the Christian god that Im there to pray for?

Does anyone know what I mean or am I just odd?

OK this is coming from a christian some may want to stone me lol ( im teasing) Breath and DONT WORRY! You are entitled to your belifes If you aren't comfortable using the word God dont say it.... Or if you choose to create your own vision of GOD like the divine or creator of the energy that allows the energy to comunicate ...or anything you are comfortable with: Do that, Its all about Love .

Sit down and see what resinates with you... The earth the universe, science.
For me I go to church, I belive in The father the son and the holy ghost
But there are many things that I disagree with when it comes to interpretation or translation of the bible. That does not make me a bad person or a hypocrite.

Im one of those people when I get an email and they try and intimidate and shame you into forwarding the email to pass the word of the lord..... I delete that part I only keep the good in it...... GOD doesnt want someone to be shamed into loveing him ! He doesnt want you to feel uncomfortable.

I belive in heaven, and that spirits come and visit us all the time All are welcome! No matter what religion they belive or if they dont belive in it at all there is a place for everyone Again its about Love and respect all that is, being connected to whats around you even if its simply a blade of grass

If you are severely uncomfortable being there, and find it hard to not to say GOD, or you cant come up with your own meaning then maybe you can find another circle that has more like minded people. Being in a place that makes you "uncomfortable" wont allow you to grow in the long run.

Question, when some says God bless to you... (im not talking about sneezing ) Even though you dont belive do you feel good about it? You know the person is wishing you only good correct? If that is the case then when you say the word GOD think of that feeling... Like a light beams down on you filled with love

I hope some of that helped you a bit...and I hope you dont mind me saying it But May GOD bless you! I do hope you find what fits and resinates with you so that you may continue to grow and open spiritually in a way that is comfortable to you

I think God is God no matter what God is called. I also think God couldn't care less what name you use.

I was trying to think of an analogy, and rain comes to mind. I grew up in the mountains above Seattle, where there's a near constant precipitation certain times of the year. We call it "drizzle." As an adult I moved to Texas. Most Texans had never heard of drizzle, and couldn't believe that anyone could stand living in a place where it rained so constantly like that -- how could you get out of the house? Well, I thought that was silly. You just went. A little rain never hurt anyone.

Then I experienced my first Texas rain. OMG. I don't think I ever experienced anything like that once in all my years of living with drizzle.

The point is -- it's all water. Our experiences of it, and our perceptions of those experiences are all unique and different. And some people have different names for it, some of which are comfortablt for everyone (rain) and some of which leave some people wondering "what the....?" (drizzle?? what???).

God is God. We all have different ideas, different experiences, different names. But the essence of the thing is the same no matter what.

Huh. Guess that wasn't so simple after all -- sorry! But it was fun -- I find the rain thing to be so amusing! HTH anyway.

I agree with Smiles4U totally.

I'm a Catholic and obviously beleive in God. For a while i struggled because i was always told it was aginst the churches teachings to be into the stuff that i am. But, you know what? I decided that as long as they come from a place of love and light then no-one can judge me or criticize my thoughts.

You have to do what you feel comfortable with. I think many people think along the same lines as you. Some change their minds as their journey evolves, some don't.

awwww thanks everyone. You have all helped me enormously in your replies above.
I have this idea of what I think god is and that idea is unique to me. I wouldnt like to preach my version of 'god' so I guess it is hard for me to accept someone elses interpretation of their god, iyswim? Which is why I guess I find it somewhat uncomfortable to deal with, when people try and put this image in my head of what god should be like/ddoes/says etc!

I guess all the big religions have taken things out and put things in along the way. As far as I am aware all the religions of the world all stem from the same idea dont they?
I am not a religious person, for the masses. I guess I am a solitary believer. I dont like the mainstream. For things to resonate with me they have to be personal to me. I feel like I am pulled in a certain direction when it comes to spirituality. So whatever feels right for me is what makes me happy and I go with that. I guess at the end of the day that is all that matters.

I feel like I have gained some sense of clarity on this since bringing it up here.

Gypsy Mama your analogy of the rain was awesome! I really enjoyed reading that!

Thanks again to you all. I took bits of every message there and smiled and felt humble! xxxx
