It's been awhile since I've had any astral experiences; just hasn't been my focus lately. Plenty of lucid dreams though and I've been working on LD affirmations... I find them to be very interesting and powerful and I think they relate to the astral wind phenomenon. Whenever I request or affirm something that seems to be very powerful, the response from the LD environment is very dynamic.. a storm rises up. Sometimes a wind rises up that pushes the entire environment away from me... sometimes the wind pushes me right out of the LD and awake. I've posted about this elsewhere, but a kundalini affirmation that I was able to repeat several LDs (w/ affirmations) in a row caused some very interesting things to happen; a cat with blue snake eyes appeared, walked up to me, put its tongue as if to taste me, and its tongue was black and white striped and forked like a snake's... lightning/thunder came up, wind blew me right out of the LD and bumped me down through 15 layers of Self til I was awake, but I awakened into a time loop (an event that repeated the same way, exactly twice), a vision of my future, etc.
Anyways, back on topic... so I haven't really been playing with OBE/astral stuff very much, so when it happens lately it's spontaneous. I'm recently back from the Lifeline program at the Monroe Institute... I didn't sleep well last night, so I decided to get a little more rest and to also try a specific retrieval. I went to check on a former teacher of mine and was dismayed to discover that he's somewhere in Focus 23 and sofar I've been unable to find him. I guess that's the thorn of the rose of this kind of work... you have to put aside your expectations about where people will go, especially when you know them. Anyways, after going up through F10 up to F27, then down to F23, with various amounts of click outs, I clicked out from more unsuccessful poking around in F23 into a dream... I was lying on my stomach watching my two cats play, and I was commenting to someone that something seemed wrong because there seemed to be sometimes FOUR cats rather than just the two. I commented that if those were my two cats, then why could I feel another cat, climbing on my feet? So I turned around to see the cat on my feet, and as I did, I started to wake up into my physical body and feel an intense vibration happening in my thigh. Very intense and focused on one point, like you'd feel from a massager. I was pretty lucid and rested after a night of sleep, so I allowed the vibration to continue, recognizing it as related to OBE and observing it as I did. When it reached its natural sort of peak point of vibration, there was an audible "snap" in my head. I recognize the snap too, having heard other people describe it... I work in audio and the snap sounded exactly like what happens when audio snaps... the difference between the frequency curve when it's interrupted mid-waveform and a "zero degree" frequency causes an audible "snap" like the snap that you hear when you turn a set of speakers on. This is exactly what it sounded like. It was not a very loud snap. I felt a drifting OOB sensation and got excited... this caused me to find myself right back in body. Note to self: Don't get emotional during the transition; it scuttles it. Next thing I'm aware, I'm on my stomach and still hearing the vibrations. Merely thinking about any area of my body causes the vibration to intensify in that area. I think about my heart and the vibration feels sort of funny and wobbly and thuddy and dense and circular as it's in that area... Then I think about my throat (it's a bit too "deep" and uncomfortable in the heart area); the vibration gets more "bone" like and clicky feeling. To the "ears" the vibration sounds very much like the blades of a helicopter, spinning at a slow but regular chop. "WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW....." It's a very nice and regular vibration, not very loud... I mentally contrast it to the first times I felt spontaneous exit sensations and remember that those vibrations felt like being inside a blender jammed inside a tank engine, or one of the later times when the vibration felt like a purring motorcycle engine running cyclically up through my body from feet to head. What's apparent is that the slightest amount of thought causes a change to the location and intensity of the vibration (not withstanding an overall vibration) And all of this time, I'm just about 99% physically awake... I can hear my fiance' doing gardening outside, I can hear the cats running around the house and such. I'm feeling very relaxed because I'm well rested, I'm very aware of what's going on, and it's bright sunlight out... What a nice way to experience OBE vibrations!! So anyways, when I directed attention to the throat area, the vibration built and intensified in that area... I simply observed calmly and waited to see what would happen. Now this has happened to me many times before, but it was so fascinating to watch in a really lucid and aware manner, with zero fear. What happened is that I started to feel myself float away from my body... but the moment I would try to take control and pull myself farther away from my body, I would shift / phase back in, or fall back in. So I decided to stop trying to go OOB and just go with the experience and observe it instead, with no expectations. Rather than Harry Potter grabbing the broom and shooting off into the sky on his first lesson, I decided to be one of the normal kids, getting on the broom, floating up a few feet, then gently touching back down to ground. What's interesting is that the intensified throat vibration and the floating sensation were interchangeable... in that you could simultaneously feel as if you were deliberately floating yourself away from body, at the same time as feeling pushed out as if by an inflating balloon. (I think that the balloon feeling is a helpful technique like the rope technique... you "think" it and it immediately happens, but you are also aware that you are creating the sensation) I have noticed several times before that the vibrations get to that "peak" point, almost like an electron reaching a certain excited state and jumping up to the next level and that the vibration simply can't be sustained by your awareness but kicks you right OOB... I have noticed that it doesn't matter where that excitation occurs... only that when it occurs, it immediately seems to float me OOB. I've had it happen out the ear... now a random spot on leg, and throat. So I did this 5-6 times... focused on my throat, felt the vibrations intensify in that area, feel pushed / gently floated up as if by an inflating balloon initiating in the throat area, float gently up a few feet, then float gently back down into body. It was a little like floating in water, or perhaps like floating on a breath. It was also a little like being in a skydiving wind tunnel tube, 'cept without the crazy wind tunnel, lol. I think if I had kept it up long enough, I would have eventually floated away completely, but it did feel as if a sort of gravity / magnetic force were pulling me gently back in... I think that in this case that force was only my waking awareness of my physical body.. I was simply too close to physically awake to have a complete separation. That is okay... as I said, I was simply observing with no expectations. I had no visual sight during the experience, only sensations, as if I were simultaneously lying flat on the bed with eyes closed and floating just a few inches above it. (And I likely was) Finally, after about the 6th time, some noise from the waking world, and my growing awareness / awakeness / positive emotion caused the vibrations to die down to a barely audible level, I decided to let the vibrations go and come fully awake. (Which was really only inches away) I can say that this is the first time I have ever felt vibes so widely awake and able to study them with such a calm sense of detachment, lucidity and wonder. Above all, it was FUN!!!! |

This post is very insightful, and it should be required reading for someone who wants to know how things feel like.
Thank you for this specific quote, I'll probably quote you in the future: I work in audio and the snap sounded exactly like what happens when audio snaps... the difference between the frequency curve when it's interrupted mid-waveform and a "zero degree" frequency causes an audible "snap" like the snap that you hear when you turn a set of speakers on. ![]() |
