Default OBE: Shift of consciousness/awareness
Last night as I was going to sleep, I felt a very, very subtle sort of shaking sensation and then I found myself weightless. I was in more or less the same position I had been (lying on my side) but I was entirely weightless, with no physical sensations at all (nowhere that hurt, no place where the bed was pressing against me, etc.), just a lovely feeling of complete comfort.

I realised that I was out of my body. I didn't attempt to go anywhere or do anything because, to be honest, I was just really enjoying the comfort of being weightless like that, it was really peaceful.

I fell asleep shortly after that, and today, when I reflect on it, I think I have a new perception of what happens with an OBE. Basically, your focus/awareness shifts to your energy body, rather than being focussed on your material body. Am I understanding that correctly?

I just want to know, because shifting focus seems to me a lot easier than other methods I've tried. I'm aware of my energy body, and it's not difficult for me to shift my awareness. It is, however, very difficult for me to "leave my body" consciously. If shifting my attention to my energy body will do the trick, I'll concentrate on that and I might have a better chance of conscious projection.

That's a good way to describe it. I have lately been experiencing very quick forms of OBE while fully awake. These are unique in that there are little to no exit sensations and happen several times a day.

Shifting focus was really easy for me as well. I was always very aware of my energy body. After I started to consciously project I realized that due to my health condition, my awareness was almost always outside of my body anyway. I think this played a part in how easy it was for me to learn to consciously project. It was almost too easy for me, ya know? I think this is because I'm usually "out there" already. (Pun intended. ) This is probably the case with you as well.

When in chronic pain, it becomes second nature to disassociate ones self from the physical body. For me, this aided in my ability to consciously project.
