I had a consciously induced O.B.E. a while ago but had trouble steering. I projected with a lot of force and flew straight through my wall without meaning to. I tried to correct my movement but ended up circling around my apartment. Before I knew it I ended up back in my physical body again. Is this a common thing for early O.B.E.'s? How can I improve my steering and moving dexterity? Also is there a way to stay O.B.E. for longer periods during early experiences?
Very common. You're like a balloon with an air leak, lol. This can even happen to a lifelong projector after a long dry spell. The only thing I can think of is use your intention instead of your astral body to navigate, and practice, practice, practice.

I think so. When I was younger I remember doing all those things that would apply if you were flying in-body (and were light as helium) to steer. As the years went by I was teaching others how to steer. It became second nature to me and I don't even think of that- I just point and go, so to speak, so I think all those 'gimmicks' help when you're consciously starting out. After a while you're not even aware of your energy body (unless you put your attention on it) and just do things automatically.
