Default A new member's first OBE! :D
Well, as some of you may have read in my introduction, it was a near-OOBE type experience that convinced me to actually get into much of this stuff instead of just wishing I had the guts to What I'd like to ask about is what my first real projection could have been. The reason I ask is that although I'm almost 100% certain that it was a projection, I'm not sure what kind.
For some background, I started meditation along with NEW and made fair progress for a year or two. The one thing that was slightly disappointing to me was that although I'd had plenty of times where I would be in a vibrational, pre-OOBE state, none of them were intentional (following meditation). Usually I would find myself coming out of a dream, most often when I slept in late on weekends, and when I was just in between sleeping and waking I would start to drift off into a trance and then I would feel a surge of vibrational energy. The one time that I had enough coherent intent going on to do something about it, I simply rolled out of my body without thought (I make a distinction between thought and intention here; when I say thought I refer to what some buddhists call the 'monkey mind', always chattering away when we're trying to concentrate). I then opened my 'eyes' and saw my room exactly as I would expect it, exactly as I left it except that I saw the early morning sunlight sneaking in around the shades I looked over to my bed and beheld my body, sound asleep. Then, before I had much time to enjoy the experience, my body rolled out of bed and onto the floor. At this, i thought, "oops, I guess I'd better go back to my body and make sure I'm okay!" The problem that I have in evaluating my experience is that when i returned to my body and woke up, I was still in bed. During the experience, I'd thought I was basically in the 'real' or material world that my daily life is in. Could someone tell me what actually happened? It really did seem as though I was in the everyday world when I projected, but it wasn't. Also, sometimes I find it quite easy to achieve the vibrational trance from sleep (usually with an affirmation the night before), but I can't seem to do it from waking meditation. Any advice? Thanks so much!

James

p.s. I apologize for the disorganized nature of my post. This is probably the first time I've been able to open up so much about this kind of stuff, so it all came spouting out XD

Your post was just fine, James.

I believe you've done one of two things:

1. You projected into the real time zone and seeing your body fall out of bed was a reality fluctuation. Perhaps it was a subconscious projection of your fear that you were leaving your body empty of consciousness (you weren't by the way and seeing your body act independently may have been your subconscious mind telling you as much);

2. You dreamt you were projecting.

As for the second question, I can totally relate to your difficulties. Try sleeping for 6 hours and then attempt relaxation and conscious projection.

Thanks for your reply! As to your number 2 idea, I'm very certain I wasn't just dreaming because all the classic symptoms were very intense (vibrations, the feeling of separation from my body and a feeling of freedom I've never had before or since). I'm glad to hear that you think I may have been in the rtz, as that has been my personal goal for astral projection. I think that's where I'd like to spend most of my time, at least for a while. Would projecting with more energy or a healthier energy body decrease the probability of these fluctuations so that I could be more certain I'm seeing real events? Thanks again

James

I tend to agree with you that you were in the RTZ.

Would projecting with more energy or a healthier energy body decrease the probability of these fluctuations so that I could be more certain I'm seeing real events? My feeling is that it would help. I also think that maintaining awareness in your waking life will carry over so that if fluctuations occur you'll see them for what they are.

Yeah. My first projection was a spontainous one. It scared and confused me, so I'm all with you on the not knowing wtf happend. Keep the faith and work towards understanding.

Robert Bruce's "Astral Dynamics" is helping me a great deal. You can find it at Barns and Noble booksellers.
